Story

With the most spectacular sunset view on the island, the Waterman Restaurant offers everything needed for that special get away dining experience. Expansive outdoor decks overlooking the Galveston Bay along with the finest seafood available makes the Waterman an experience that you don’t want to miss.

The beautiful casual lodge feeling is created by the 10,000 square feet of antique long leaf pine. This fine warm wood was salvaged from the 100 year old cotton warehouses that were a big part of the Galveston “Glory Days”. Located down the island, the Waterman is “Galveston’s hidden treasure” that takes you far from the crowd and puts you on that special “island time”.

This place has a beautiful view and the food itself is wonderful. I’m only giving it a three star because the service is very slow. There were only four tables with occupants including ours. We drive a good ways to come here. We’ve been here three times now and haven’t seen the same bartender yet. Which is nice when you want to sit in the bar area and watch the games. They need to pick up the tempo if they want to remain open.

I loved the atmosphere, service and quality of the food. The chicken fettuccine was a little bland, but after I added some salt and pepper, it was great. The garlic bread was amazing. The classic burger and fries was fresh and delicious. I didn't care for the margarita with lime and lemon juice. I should have just drank a diet coke. The prices were reasonable and affordable. I will definitely be returning.

Nice setting. Food was okay for the extreme price and there's not a lot of options. Drinks were strong, but more variety than the food menu. Bathrooms are not marked for children to understand where to go. Pretty sure my plate was supposed to come with a vegetable and that didn't happen. Plenty of parking in a tucked away location. Staff was friendly and pretty attentive.

Owner's need to sell it; I have never written a review and this is from my heart. They have given up. The place has the bones to be an absolute hit. Boat slips, restaurant, launch, building a development next door, fuel and bait shop. The problem is the restaurant just can't be consistent. Good one visit and completely trash the next time. The development next to them is their's yet looks like it's going into foreclosure. After touring the 2 homes for sale I understand why. Once again, it has the bones to be great. Bait shop has had some really good employees, but we were told the owners were a no show and would not support them. Zero bait, zero supplies, no nada. Major holidays they didn't have a thing in stock, even before the crowd. We were told the owner's wouldn't answer their phones. They obviously either never come or do not understand the importance of the prevailing winds. This place has blocked the breeze and view everywhere. At the boat slips if you rent one, you will need an IV bag after parking and washing your boat because the horizontal boards block 97% of the breeze. For passing by traffic they block 100% of the view of the water. Waterman's at ground level from Stewart's road has zero water view, they flat out blocked it. If you're thirsty for a quick drink the down stairs bar is sure to put you in complete heat stroke. From the outside it has garage doors, but once again the owner's built some general store that has never opened, but blocks 100% of the breeze. If you want to order a drink from here and plan on staying longer than 5 min, you will pass out from sweating and heat exhaustion. The owner's need to let new buyers come in and give life to this entire place and development. Let's not get started on the landscape upkeep...

Fantastic! I am a picky eater and the chef completely followed my specifications to the letter! Fantastic gumbo! Great service! Must try the black berry cobbler or key lime pie!! Mmmmmm
