My experience is that the passport cost to much 280 dollars.and compared to a us passport which is 60 dollars or 80 dollars I find as a senior on a budjet that it's cost is way to high.6 months ago I made an iquirie and then it was 200.dollars now it's more. In US dollars.I have to send home for a misplaced birth certificate which over 30 years in this country got l9st when moving..they helped with the Address.I hate how the consulate isnt open.it feels so packed no desk or table to fill m in your document. Clerk not friendly at all mat be stuck in the small space is no fun so he's forgiven. I wish it could go back to how the office was on Polk st.much more open and comfortable.

Mt experience at arriving at the San Francisco consulate was excellent.  My information was reviewed and processed quickly and professionally.

Processing my credit card resulted in the card being locked until I could call and rectify.  I think the banks think this is a foreign transaction rather than a local transaction for a foreign agency.
Using fedex generally is worse for delivery than USPS.  Fedex was 3 days late for the promised delivery date.  In contrast for half the money, I had my wife's passport sent to her hotel and it arrived the next day within 15 minutes of the promised delivery.  Suggest you use USPS in the future.

I had a very poor experience with the Australian consulate in San Francisco. Incredibly inefficient, lazy (but competent) office staff. My only goal was to book a mandatory appointment to request a new passport (I am a student here).

PROBLEMS
- Phone maze takes literally 5 minutes to get to what you want (I timed it after the fourth time I selected the wrong number!)
- Nobody ever answers the phone once it finally directs you to a real person
- When I finally got to speak to someone on my 4th call after 3 weeks, the guy decides to argue with me, "we actually get those complaints a lot, so I checked by calling for myself and the system definitely works"

GOOD THINGS
- The office itself is in a fancy building in San Francisco, so while you're waiting at the front desk for someone to show up, you'll have a glimpse of their view.
