Late on a Thursday night coming home from work I decided to buy some new pairs of shorts since they were bound to be on clearance by now. I only had 20 minutes to try on shorts so that I would be home by 7:00 PM. I took the shorts to the nearest register near the clearance rack where an elderly woman stopped helping a young African-American couple to ring me up. First, she asks me to type in my social security number if I have a Carson's Rewards Card. I ask her if I can type in my home phone number, to look up my mother's Rewards Card . She says she cannot do this but that it is easy to sign me up for a Rewards Card. I try to decline this but she lists of a bunch of numbers on how much money I can save and asks to see my ID. I show her my ID, just wanting to get this done as fast as possible to get home. She then asks for my phone number, my work phone number, the last four digits of my social security number, and my email address. This all seems very strange to me just to sign up for a rewards card. Only after I pressed the OK button after confirming my email address does she say that I will receive my CREDIT CARD in the mail. This is the first time "credit card" was mentioned in this entire conversation. This entire transaction was in the context of signing up for a rewards card—like the one I have from Sports Authority (RIP) that's still sitting in my wallet—NOT a credit card! She asks for me to pay and I say that I would like to cancel this transaction. She says that I either need to pay with cash or charge it to my new Carson's credit card. I did not have a few $100 on hand to spend on clothes, but I refuse to charge to an amorphous credit card that I do not have in my possession. She has to call over her manager, a young blonde woman, in order to cancel the credit card transaction. I breathe a sigh of relief. She comes over and gives me the same spiel, that I should charge to the card in order to save money with rewards. I decline again, saying that I do not want to charge to a credit card I do not have. This is when she explains that though she can cancel the transaction to the new credit card, the application has already been submitted and I will still receive my card. It is taking all of my self-control not to start screaming expletives at these two women. Thankfully, as a rational person, I understand that they're both working at a retail store which is nowhere near the best job in the world and just like I wouldn't want someone yelling at me while I work, I'm not about to yell at someone for following a corporate script even though it requires intentional obfuscation by: 1) Hiding the fact that it's a credit card until the application is submitted. 2) Throwing out several percentages and dollar amounts of rewards with or without the rewards card in rapid succession in an attempt to confuse the customer 3) Constantly insisting on signing up for the rewards card even when the customer shows disinterest or declines. It is disgusting that there are corporate vultures who prey on hardworking Americans wanting to make a quick pit stop before going home and relaxing for the rest of the night, when the last thing any of us want to do is be swindled into signing up for a credit card, and be an hour+ late to getting home on a work night. I DID NOT CONSENT to sign up for a CREDIT CARD. That's the issue here. I am 10 points away from having a credit score of 800 before the age of 30, and I'm not going to let a credit card that I did not consent to, and voiced my objections over THREE times, ruin that credit score if I want to close it, by the principle that I did not consent to opening it. This is the first time I've ever walked into a Carson's in my adult life. I have been mostly ordering my clothes off of Amazon and eBay, but I wanted to try on a new brand to add to my repertoire of clothes that I automatically buy from (Columbia and Haggar are great). With the exception of having to return these shorts if I find that I don't like them, I can guarantee that I will NEVER walk back into a Carson's in my life!!!

Upper level and lower level management is a joke. They have no idea how to run a business, Let alone know how to treat people, especially their employees. I saw one being scolded like a child on the salesfloor in front of customers...so unprofessional. It is no wonder why this store is ranked as low as Sears and Kmart. How do they expect their store, as well as their customers and employees to excel if they themselves behave like a group of wild baboons. Its sad that it will probably take bankruptcy for them to realize their flaws.

I was shopping in the lingerie department and was having trouble finding what I needed. Just when I was about to leaving the store empty handed, the customer service women at the register named Mary helped me find two of what I needed!!! It really made my day! Thank you, Mary!

My husband and I decided to purchase me a new coat. Found one but had to run all over the department to find a mirror. When I went to pay for the coat the sales clerk "Angel", which she wasn't, made it quit clear she didn't like white people and kept cutting me off when I tried to ask a question. No wonder I don't like to shop.

Terrible customer service. Spoke to the manager Camille about a coat that (along with many other coats) were on a rack that displayed the wrong price and her response was "I have 20 other racks to put signs on so I can't worry about every detail that's on the sign". Wait, what?? I'll never give that location my money again.
