Our mission is to promote and protect public health and environmental quality in the community through people, prevention and partnerships.

Story

Our agency was established in 1872 as a City Health Department, and then became an organized County Health Department in 1939. We serve all residents and visitors of El Paso County, which includes the cities and towns of Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Calhan, Fountain, Green Mountain Falls, Monument, Palmer Lake and Ramah. We are dedicated to protecting health and promoting quality of life through the prevention and control of disease.

WIC threaten me and my husband calling DHS on us because my son was suppoedly under weight, after March we're getting off I clearly do not like them anymore

If you enjoy being talked down to and lectured than wic is definitely the place to get assistance. The food that they offer is mostly carbohydrates and very little vegetables and fruit. They have outdated ideals of what nutrition is. Sure they offer breast pumps if you are a breast feeding mother, but the humiliation that you have to endure is not worth it. I would rather get carpal tunnel with a hand pump then ever be treated with such disrespect ever again. The " nutritionist" had me expose my breasts with the shades up, to where I'm sure the parking structure over look the room could see in. The she had me latch my baby on to my breasts sitting there in an un comfortable chair where i could not get into a good safe feeling position with my baby. Then she had me latch my son to my breast and then inform me i was doing it wrong, once again while i was in an un comfortable position and could not get any leverage. I'm sure this will fall upon deaf ears but if this happens to anyone else, just know that it is not you but this horrible women.

person that scheduled my appt was rude and gave me wrong info wasted my time telling me now i have to come back a whole month later.Ive never had a problem with wic until i moved to Colorado.

The family planning portion never has their stuff together. Even with an appointment the wait is 40 minutes or longer every single time and their excuse is always "I only have one provider here today" well, I saw 3 while waiting an hour after my appointment time. Ridiculous!
