Happy hour was good here. The drinks and crab dip were good ($8/each). The view is north facing so you don't see the monuments/white house. It was crowded and seating was limited. Managed to snag 2 empty chairs at a shared table but the sun was hitting us. Got better a little later when a breeze picked up.

Drink selection wasn't that impressive. View was nice but we left after one drink. Was a bit crowded too, a party was talking up a lot of seat space but weren't actually sitting there. If we were starting at this hotel I may go back if I didn't have plans but not otherwise.

The Ellipse is a relatively new bar in DC and it does have some potential. But also some challenges... Like facing the wrong way. Their marketing says "Great view of downtown DC" (or something similar), and yes... that is true .. if you like being in the NW and like the view north - not South, which is where all the sights are... Anyway, the bar is decent, but understaffed at happy hour, and the seating is not enough even when it is only half full.

Only one bar tender so happy hour line is terrible.. reach on time or else miss the deal. Price is good.
