Father Hennepin State Park

Story

Father Hennepin State Park is a state park of Minnesota, USA, located on the southeast corner of Mille Lacs Lake. The park is named after Father Louis Hennepin, a priest who visited the area with a French expedition in 1680. The 320acre park has 103 campsites and a sandy beach over one mile (1.6 km) long.WildlifeHawks, ospreys, owls, and eagles are common raptors found in this park. Mammalian tracks of beaver, raccoon, mink and deer are often seen by visitors in the soft earth or snow. Northern pike, walleye, bluegills, sunfish and bass swim around this park's lake. The aspen stands and small clearings are set up for ruffed grouse. Squirrels and chipmunks thrive in maple and oak stands. The small ponds and streams provide homes for amphibians and insects, which in turn attract larger fish, birds and mammals.

A nice park in its own right, but other than the water access, there really isn't much here. The trails are mostly flat and make for good casual walking through the nice forested area that can really "pop" in the fall. There is fair amount of wildlife and nice picnic area as well. The real beauty of this park, however, is its proximity to lake Mille Lacs, which is a true Minnesota marvel!

I have gone here so many times growing up with my parents and sister. Now that I have kids I take them there and enjoy it. It's always a blast

We always enjoy going to this campground. Hoping for a bathroom update soon, but they work and just happy they're not outhouses! Campground has lots of walking and biking trails that circle the lake. Beautiful.

The park itself is very nice. When we arrived Wednesday afternoon, the park office was closed and stayed closed all day so we were unable to purchase wood or ice. My main complaint tho is the bathrooms were disgusting! Besides being dirty, the shower stalls had mold and spider webs hung everywhere!

We had a great time at this park. I'd recommend the Lakeview campground. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely return.
