Foster Harris House is the epitome of gracious and caring hospitality. We stayed in the Compton Room and it was extremely comfortable. “Breakfast “ was a delicious feast comprised of several courses- including crab cake eggs Benedict prepared by a wonderful chef.

Wow, where to begin? Can't rave enough about the gorgeous setting, beautiful countryside, top notch service and kindness from Dawn and Zoe. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary there mid-week and the place was all ours. Dawn and Zoe treated us like family. And what a gifted executive chef Dawn Sieber is! She has an absolutely phenomenal skill for blending fantastic tastes and textures to create incredible gastronomic memories! And the wine parings for each course were fantastic. Even if you can't stay over (which you really should, you deserve it), make dinner reservations and get the wine paring. Each course outdid the next, even though you swear it couldn't, it did. And breakfast the next morning was perfect, not too heavy, just right as the scones and crapes were melt-in-you-mouth good. Much of the food is sourced locally which you can taste, so fresh and wonderful. The location is perfect if you are dropping off (or visiting) one of your kids at college along the I-81 drive (which we did). Take an extra night and treat yourself to a beautiful drive along the Shenandoah valley to Washington VA and check in to the Foster Harris house, you will be so glad you did. Thanks again Dawn and Zoe, look forward to the next stay with you!

What an amazing experience this was! We had a two-night stay booked at the Inn at Little Washington--had Saturday dinner reservations there, but needed dinner plans for Friday as well. I came across Foster Harris House on the web and am so pleased I did. From the minute we walked in the door for dinner, John and Diane made us feel truly at home. The limited seating and personal attention make you feel like you're at a private dinner party. The decor is casual but elegant, and the food is truly outstanding. The menu could easily be that of an upscale Manhattan restaurant, and the ingredients are perhaps even better because they are all sourced locally. Given the setting, the imagination and quality of the food, and the warm and friendly manner of John and Diane, the prix fixe dinner with wine pairing is a tremendous value. In many ways we preferred the Foster Harris experience to the much-lauded restaurant at the Inn at Little Washington up the street. Foster Harris House is one of those rare gems, and well worth the trip. Despite local farms, area wineries and NYC culinary talent, we have nothing like Foster Harris House here on Long Island. John and Diane--if you ever want to relocate, we'll have you booked solid for years to come!

In the small town of Washington, Virginia, the Inn at Little Washington steals the headlines, but the Foster Harris House should not be overlooked. John & Dianne McPherson are quick to welcome you to their warm bed & breakfast, keen on comforting details. Whether it's the fresh baked cookies and his & her robes, or the cozy living room with a decanter of port to enjoy while reading through local magazines and cookbooks, you instantly feel relaxed upon your arrival. There's also space to relax outside on the front porch or in a set of adirondack chairs out back in a small field. Our room, the Jenkins Room, was a typical bedroom size with a surprisingly large private bathroom. We had a bottle of champagne and two glasses waiting for us thanks to wonderful parents. John shared that complimentary water and soda were in a fridge downstairs, with beer and wine also fully available. We found that everything we could need was in the room, including food and wine magazines, an iron, and an emergency wardrobe kit. Coffee was available in the hall in the morning at 7:30 AM. We did make our way to the Inn at Little Washington for dinner, but John does also prepare what looked to be an amazing meal at the Foster Harris House. If our breakfast the next morning was any indication of the flavors and detail that you can expect from their dinner, we will gladly be coming back to do a full Foster Harris experience. Breakfast included homemade granola with fresh fruit and yogurt; followed by light, pillow-like lemon blueberry scones; roasted red pepper and egg crepes over a kale pesto and balsamic drizzle; and finally a "giant" stack of three mini pancakes with shaved chocolate and a hint of mint. We enjoyed ours outside with fresh orange juice, hot coffee, and great service with both John and Diane coming out throughout breakfast. Thank you for a relaxing one night stay to celebrate a mini-moon following getting married, and we fully intend to be back to the Foster Harris House as the focal point of our weekend!
