Five stars for the wintermelon pastries, which I have been enjoying here for years. Buy them fresh and eat them warm. The subtle aroma,  the tender flakiness of the crust which you can choose between sweet and salty, the jelly-like wintermelon filling, the delicate taste will make you fall in love with them. 

Just as Paillard Le Cafe-Boulangerie in Quebec City defines for me what a croissant should be and elevates it to something special worth seeking out and making a trek for, the wintermelon pastry does that here at Fragrant Bakery. 

It is take out only, you pay by cash, and it is located in a small Chinese plaza where parking is tight. Glamorous it is not but you have to believe that it would be far more costly in a flashy setting. 

Let me suggest that you enjoy the experience of finding something so fabulous in such a down to earth shop and make it your own hidden gem.

Best place for hk style buns. Perfect ratio of bun to filling and ALWAYS fresh. This is the ONLY bakery I go to for these buns. My recommendation? Try everything here!

Their special one called The Wife Cake (老婆饼). no no it doesn't come with a wife when you purchase. Nowadays formal named Sweet Heart Pastry.

About The Wife Cake (老婆饼) one of the legend as below:
Originated from a restaurant in Guangzhou, as know Linxiang Lou (莲香楼 ).
The restaurant had hire a Dimsum chef from Chaozhou(潮州) in the early years. He once brought his wife’s home-made fried melon pastry to the restaurant for other chefs to try. Everyone felt delicious and love it. So the restaurant add it to their menu，and make it improved and introduced to customer. because it was made by the wife of the chef, they was named it so.

"The Wife Cake" is a local snack product in Guangzhou after it been porpola, It is made of soft and smooth stuffing with white gourd (冬瓜), and then mixwd made form one part of flour with water and one part of flour with ghee,  intent to create layers of layers thin crispy skin. It will bake to golden yellow finish on top of  about 4"  diameter round cake. It's very delicious and light sweet. Yet fresh and not greasy. 

Fragrant Bakery has been business and same location around a decade more or less. 
Recommend to try "the wife cake" and other Bakery products.
