I have purchased 3 bikes from Freewheel. They do a great job of getting matching you with the right bike without the hard sell. Their service is second to none.

Great prices on all ranges of bikes. Same price as on the internet. 15% off accessories on the day you buy your bike. Nice and knowledgeable people.

Have bought four bikes from them over the past fifteen years, and have recommended them to friends who have bought several others. Very happy with the service.

Prompt, practical service. I had to bring in my mountain bike for a new chain and quick check up and I got exactly what I went for. They gave me helpful hints and didn't hesitate to answer my questions no matter how novice they were. The only downside is the relatively high prices, but it's worth the good service.

I wasn't going to comment here, but then saw that a couple of other reviewers ran into the same issues. In about 2005, I bought a bike there. A couple of years later, I wanted to fit the bike for touring, which basically meant a new drive train. The shop manager said the work and parts would be "about $400." I said ok. A week later, they said the bike was ready. The bill was well over $600. Some of that was definitely them having put on pricier parts, where the main advantage was saving a few grams, which I was totally uninterested in. So they got to swap out a bunch of stuff for heavier alternatives. Oh, and then it turned out they had replaced my 175 mm cranks with 170s, without telling me. We eventually worked all this out, but they ended up about as mad at me (!) as I was at them. And I still ended up paying more than the original verbal estimate. Also, when they built some wheels for me, they didn't stress and retension the new spokes, which worked loose. I ended up rebuilding both wheels. So I don't go to Freewheel for repairs, ever. BTW, someone mentioned Patrick---he's a great guy.
