My last experience with German & Japanese Auto Repair was nothing more than an expensive lesson. This past visit was to get the 40k mile transmission service (fluid, filter and transmission pan gasket changed), on my 2014 Mercedes-Benz C250 (sport sedan with the 1.8 Turbo, 7 speed automatic transmission). I took the vehicle in and the job was completed a few hours later. When I drove off, the car seemed to shift harshly from 1st to second gear. I didn't think much of it at first as I assumed it may need to adapt and re-learn the shift points. What raised more concern was when it started slipping and smelling like burnt clutch when I exited off the freeway. To make matters worse, the transmission would lock the rear wheels when heavy acceleration from 1st to 2nd gear was necessary. The rear wheels literally locked up and I was jolted with my seat belt. Yes, it was that bad!! I took my car back to them. They looked at it, said they reset the shift points, drove it, and according to them it drove fine. I went with Many for another test drive down the street. Sure enough it had slippage between 1st and 2nd gear. His proposed resolution was to keep driving the car, and if the problem persisted, which it did, to take it back and they can put an additive. I'm no ASE certified mechanic, but adding an additive to a 2014 Mercedes just seems like a total turn off. You just don't put an additive like it's a 1994 Ford Taurus with 250k miles, I'm sorry, but you just don't. I ended up taking it in to Hoy Mercedes in El Paso. While their diagnostic equipment wouldn't reveal any issues, a quick test drive allowed the technician to determine they had not added enough fluid. The lack of fluid was causing the slippage, and also the burnt clutch smell since it wasn't sufficient to cool the transmission (especially while highway driving). Thankfully there wasn't any major transmission damage done, and the technician changed the fluid, gasket, and filter as preventive maintenance, instead of just topping up the low fluid. It's getting harder to find great service in Las Cruces. If you want the job done right the first time, recommendation is just going to the dealer. I paid German and Japanese $363.11 for the pan gasket, filter, and fluid. Then I paid Hoy Mercedes $544.98. Lesson learned.
