Story

Granite City Food & Brewery®, a casual dining restaurant with an on-site brewery. Our initial restaurant commenced operations in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in June 1999. Our second restaurant, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, commenced operations in December 2000, and our third restaurant opened to the public November 20, 2001 in Fargo, North Dakota. We now have 26 stores operating in 11 different states. At Granite City Food & Brewery®, we serve signature beers, including Duke of Wellington (an English ale) and Broad Axe Stout (an authentic Irish beer), and entrees such as London broil. We offer a broad menu of items that are prepared fresh daily and are served in generous portions at reasonable prices. Our handcrafted beers are moderately priced and offer unique styles and flavors not typically produced by major breweries.

Our founders, Mr. Wagenheim and Mr. Burdick, have over 52 years of combined hospitality industry experience. Mr. Wagenheim's experience includes that of corporate executive, owner/operator, manager and consultant for hotels, resorts, and individual and multi-unit restaurant operations. Mr. Burdick, a brewing chemist, has over 30 years experience in the restaurant, hospitality and brewing industry in both corporate and private positions.

Fermentus Interruptus™Shortly before we opened our third store, we launched our patented brewing process, Fermentus Interruptus™, which makes micro brewing for multiple locations more efficient. This process, conceived and designed by Mr. Burdick, allows us to ship sweet liquid called wort, from our central brewing facility to individual stores. When this liquid reaches the stores, we begin the fermentation process and complete the brewing. We use Fermentus Interruptus at all of our Granite City Food & Brewery® locations.

The ambiance at Granite City is warm and romantic, the staff is courteous and knowledgeable, and the food is consistently delicious. Their happy hour menu is killer as well. Be sure to sign up for their e-club online for specials and discounts! Definitely worth the read.

Phenomenal food and service!! Wasn't a fan of the double IPA or their pale ale, but not the worst beer I've had. Would highly recommend the flat bread pizzas and burgers.

As a local, it’s very hard to recommend. Will be amazing for a certain kind of tastebud. All the beers I found malty and sweet. Reminded me of 40’s and malt liquor. Kind of felt like amateur brewing to me - when you put too much malt in to get the yeast to go because you don’t know anything else. Kind of like sam Adam’s way way back when it originally started.

We were seated for a brunch buffet with no silverware and it took a good eight or ten minutes for that silverware to be brought to the table. There was only one vegetable available on the buffet. Most of the food was ok but everything seemed mediocre. I expected more. This was the third time we tried it since it opened, so I'm not opposed to giving any place a second or third chance but this one has been consistently middling. Our waiter was the only high point. He was attentive and endeavoured to make our experience slightly better.

We stopped by for on Thursday night, but there was no one to even greet us for what felt like 15 minutes, even though there were seats and booths open. The service was virtually non-existent until we finished our meal, and we both drink a lot of water. The food was enjoyable though, and happy hour kept it fairly inexpensive. We loved the fries and their dipping sauces! The bacon ketchup (Yes, you read that right!) and tarragon garlic aioli were sublime! My wings were nice with a unique mango habanero sauce and tasty ranch. My fiancée's taco could have used sauce, we thought. All in all, good food with a special french fry experience made up for the sub-par service. Those french fries are worth it!
