We had our wedding there, in October 2017. We had many guests coming in from out of state, and even many from closer locations, who were staying at the park inn for the weekend. We rented a cabin in the park. We used the park convention hall for our wedding and reception. For the outrageous amounts of money we paid that park, for rooms, rental fees, catering, etc., we were VERY disappointed in what we got for our money! First of all, many of our guests had issues with their rooms being filthy, and/or full of bugs! My brother and his wife’s room had a half glass of wine in the room and when they pulled the bedding down on the bed, it looked like someone had used the bed for sex then remade the bed! Not to mention the bathroom was dirty. Many of our guests had to be moved to alternate rooms and at least one couple, members of our wedding party, my son, his wife, and daughter, AFTER being given another room that wasn’t any cleaner than the first, made the 1 1/2 hr, one way trip back and forth to their home, rather than staying at the park! On Friday night, after our wedding rehearsal, the entire wedding party, and many of our guests went to the park restaurant for dinner. THAT was a COMPLETE DISASTER! Service sucked! The food was even worse! It took forever to get our orders, none of them were right, what food we did get wasn’t prepared correctly. My soon to be wife was embarrassed, and horrified to think that these same people were providing the catering for our reception the next day! We had rented the park’s convention hall for the ceremony and reception and paid for the rental for half a day Friday and all day Saturday. We wanted half a day Friday, so we could get it setup for rehearsal Friday evening and start decorating. Although they knew how many place settings we wanted and what configuration we wanted the tables in, no one had even begun any setup, until we got there about 1:30 in the afternoon. Once we got someone to setup, it was one, young, skinny girl with no help, who said she was the convention hall manager! We ended up helping her setup tables and chairs, place tablecloths, etc. If there’s a bright spot here, it’s that the catered meal for the wedding was absolutely perfect! On time, good quality, plenty of food. The service was great. The bar was well stocked and the barmaid, was very sweet! I was disappointed that the bar did not include soft drinks for the kids, or those, who might not want alcohol, and there was no place such as a machine, to get a soft drink in the convention hall. This was one of the issues I had tried to clarify during planning, but never got a satisfactory answer on. Mentioning planning; during the many months of planning before the wedding, the park personnel were far less than helpful, difficult to contact, and not responsive to our requests for answers to questions. After the dinner was over, the catering staff quickly stripped down the hall, removing the only source of nonalcoholic drinks, (the tea, etc. on the buffet), including table cloths, etc., leaving the place looking like the barren hall it was when we came in, while we were still dancing and enjoying ourselves. I had the bar open until 9 pm but the place was stripped down by 7:00! If I had it to do all over again, and knew what I know now, I wouldn’t use Henry Horton State Park for my wedding! We were embarrassed by the room conditions our guests were faced with, we never received a refund on the unused room my son and his family didn’t used, we never received any kind of compensation for the Friday night fiasco in the restaurant! The park was good about laying out the costs and collecting their fees, but they were real short on service!

If you are looking for a couple miles worth of trails to explore, this is the place. I have been here a few times, and have got to enjoy just being outdoors. Every so often you can see a few deer, which are fun to watch. With the abundance if tree cover, trails are quite muddy after a rain.

We frequent this park because it's close to us. We stay at the camp ground with a 35' fifth wheel camper. The water and electric are good. No sewer and the internet almost never works. The people are very friendly and the staff is also. The dump station is awkward to use and needs to be worked on. They have several trees that need to be cut or trimmed but we've been told that management is opposed to it. The tree issue is really bad in places. Overall we like the park.

Love this park! It is truly a gem, and I am so glad to see that they are doing more to try and ensure it's financial viability! My 83 year old parents stayed in a nice, clean room with a very comfortable bed. We stayed with family in Chapel Hill. All of us enjoyed a visit with the Barred Owl that they are rehabbing. Nice place!

I enjoy staying in this park, but there problems with heating, cooling and plumbing. They now serve continental breakfast and that is nice. Staff is very helpful.
