Story

HOPS Culture is a craft-beer focused restaurant-bar on Aspen's Hyman Mall. We feature over 200 domestic and imported craft beers, world-class wines by the glass, fun cocktails and an upscale American comfort food menu focused on fun shareable appetizers, gourmet sandwiches, seasonal salads and hearty soups. We have an incredible location directly on the Hyman Mall, with dedicated outdoor seating and over 3700 square feet of interior space. Unfortunately they lost a consistent group of customers this evening. The host was extremely rude. After telling her 3 times how many were in our party, she asked for the fourth time. We answered her politely and she became very agitated with us stating, “I am just getting it straight, OK?!” Several table needed to be cleared, although it did not appear busy. She informed us that she would clear a table. However, when my husband asked if we could have a table near the TV to watch. We come here often to watch football and baseball. She became even more agitated. I’m really not sure why this was a problem. Several tables were open. We left. Obviously we are not welcome.

Confused by the good reviews for this place. Has something changed? We went on Friday night, it wasn't too busy, a good crowd. Our waiter started by bringing the wrong beers on our flight....then our food took over 45 minutes. Our appetizers came out with our meals. My burger was burnt and the bun was soggy. The pretzel bites were AWFUL. The mac and cheese tasted like someone forgot to season it. Finally, we told out waiter and he didn't apologize at all, just turned around and came back with our check. Certainly will never eat here again.

The service was excessively slow. They were busy. Usually we've had decent service but this was the busiest and we waited forever. (You'll wait within reason when they're slow.) Great food just don't go peak hours/expect a long wait for ordering and for your food. Also don't ask for a glass for water, it'll never come even if you ask multiple times. Just drink the growler of water.

First the bad: the food was pretty soulless and uninspiring. In fact, it seemed like most of the food was from Costco. None of it was bad, but I expect a little more for the price point. Now the good: the staff was very friendly and they are dog-friendly. They also have a great beer selection. I live across the street from Avery Brewing, and I was impressed to see a few beers on tap that I haven't seen anywhere outside of Boulder.

My daughter and I ate at the outdoor seating area, and I don't know if the menu would be different inside, but there wasn't a lot to choose from. We ended up ordering 3 appetizers, partly because they were half price for happy hour. They were very tasty and filled us up, but they would have been far too expensive at full price. We were near the server station and heard the chef come out to describe the day's specials to the servers, which was interesting. It was obvious that a lot of thought and care went into the preparation of the specials, and that management wanted the servers to have good information to share with the guests. It felt very professional.
