If I'm being honest my final grade would be closer to a 4 star experience than a 3 but I don't feel swayed enough to outright give it 4 stars. During a recent stay I was fortunate enough to spend time in two different hotels which makes me a more valuable reviewer. As the mid level expense hotel for the area the Howard Johnson was perfectly suitable. The interior seemed updated and new, the bed was comfortable, and each room offered a small amount of outside seating with two plastic chairs provided. Given the opportunity this hotel would be my landing sit from but in if I was in town. It's clean enough and modern enough to be worthy of the free extra dollars you might spend.

A perfect place to stay with easy access to the highway. The restaurant (part of the motel) is very handy and offers great food and service.

Great wifi, heated pool, comfy bed. Nice check out time. Minutes from old mystic and mystic seaport.

Bathroom fan has 2 inches of dust. The paint was chipping and the tile work in the bathroom was sloppy and missing pieces. Two sheets on the bed and the a/c kept shutting off. Need to sound proof rooms. All I could hear was dogs and kids through the wall all night. So much chlorine in the pool that i swim for 10 minutes. Need better air flow. Was not impressed at all. They said we had one of the updated rooms and it looked like a kid did the work. Never going back
