We were finally able to check out Jack’s BBQ for dinner. The space inside and out had the right vibe for a Texas inspired BBQ/Brisket spot. Our wait at 7pm on a Friday, with no reservations was around 20 minutes. We had a table by the window off the bar, which was nice. They had some live music going on inside too. The waiter we had was prompt and friendly. He explained the options and the bbq process. I ordered the brisket and my two sides were Cornbread and the baked Mac n cheese. Both delicious. The brisket was melting off the knife. The table is stocked with two types of BBQ Sweet and a spicy. My partner ordered the chicken salad, which was huge! We had our eye on the Peach Cobbler, but were way too full at that point.
It took literally 10min before a waiter came to see me. There was live country music, good songs, but there was no vibe. Received my plate, the brisket was dry, ribs had a good rub, but the meat wasn't easy to grab from the bone. Coleslaw was good, but the mac n cheese wasn't cheesy enough, in fact it wasn't very good. Ratings were high, I was excited to try it, but what a bummer..
Real authentic Texas BBQ. I had the day rub ribs and 4 hours later am still full no dessert. The cornbread was easily some of the best I have ever had. It came with a dollop of honey butter that soaked into a hole punched in the center of the cornbread brick as it melted. Parking: Small lot to the side of the building with additional street parking.
The ribs, pulled pork, collard greens, and cornbread were all fantastic! Came here with my partners family and we had a wonderful time. Cool rustic ambience, and authentic BBQ. Cant go wrong!
We heard from a friend that they had breakfast tacos so we stopped in on a Saturday morning. Didn't even need a menu as our waiter listed the three options. We got one of each and an extra brisket taco. They were all great. At just under $5 a taco, it was the cheapest breakfast we had in Bellingham.
Ordered $90 of food from this place, getting a family picnic meal. The sides we got would feed 1-2 people at most, whereas the meat quantity was sufficient. They gave us a single slice of corn bread... We decided to try this new BBQ place, but clearly our regular choice of Burnt Ends is WAY better. They actually give you large portions of the sides and just as much meat. Embarrassingly stingy for the cheapest parts. After eating the food, we had more complaints. The chili has no beans sloppy joe status, the tiny corn bread was just alright, the collard greens were good but not AS good as Burnt Ends, the slaw was alright, and the meat was lacking flavor for BBQ especially the abnormally smooth chicken. Burnt Ends has way more flavor in everything, and actually tastes smoked/BBQ'd.
I ate at their opening night yesterday and it was amazing! The brisket was so tender and the chili was delicious, meaty, and had a kick. Our server Rick was great and very attentive. I was very hyped about this place opening and I'm very glad we have a solid BBQ place to go to!
Jacks BBQ spot is the real deal. The Texas BBQ brisket sandwich was delicious . It was flavorful and moist. The queso and chips was a perfect appetizer. If you love cheesy macaroni, the queso mac is the cheesiest and yummers! The ranch water hit all the spots. The hubs had a bruised cherry Manhattan and he raved about it all night. Our server, Rocket was the man! We will definitely go back again and again!
My first time here, we ordered 1 lb of Brisket and Cobb salad. The brisket was juicy and delicious .The salad was really good. The staff friendly, definitely coming back again!
The term "Texas BBQ" is used all over the country, but referring to yourself as "Central Texas BBQ" is a bold claim and can be hard to back up. I was raised in Texas and recently lived in South East Austin. I have eaten a whole bunch of Central Texas BBQ. The term "Meat Coma" comes to mind.... Jack's has a good vibe when you walk in. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie on the wall and David Allen Coe music playing. The staff was excellent. There is a decent selection of beer and a full bar. I ordered the Texas Trinity plate...brisket, pork ribs and sausage so I could taste a little of everything. I chose the jalapeno cheese as my sausage. First thing....I used no sauce. In Central Texas asking for sauce is like asking for ketchup for a plate of Spaghetti you bought in Tuscany. A look of dismay will generally be the response to the request. When eating good BBQ you want to taste the meat and the smoke. Sauce only covers those tastes. That is why almost all the BBQ chains "sauce up" their often over cooked or under smoked meat. Anyway...back to "The Trinity".... The sausage was tasty, and had a nice snap to it when you bit into it. The pork ribs were also decent. I had the collard greens and Texas Caviar as my sides. The greens were some of the best I have ever had....amazing. The Texas Caviar, a cold blacked pea salad was also very good. My wife's slaw and potato salad were fairly bland. What about the brisket you ask...? Well....the brisket was the worst thing I tasted at Jack's. It reminded me of typical chain brisket....lets say, Terry Black's. I mean he bark was there and so was the smoke ring, but the taste was lacking. One piece was from the thinner part of the brisket and was very dry. The other pieces had decent fat and juiciness but still lacked that Central Texas taste. I don't know what Jack's uses for rub or what type of wood they use but their qualities did not transfer to the meat. I know some would say giving three stars is harsh but brisket is the King of Meat in Texas. It is the bedrock of Texas BBQ and at least on this trip, Jack's did not deliver the Central Texas brisket they advertised. Neither my wife and I finised our brisket and declined when offered a take home box. If you are in the mood for BBQ, give Jack's a try. It is better than the other local options. Most of the food is pretty good and if you do choose the brisket....there are bottles of BBQ sauce right on the table.
