So happy we finally popped in to try Matthew’s. This place is centrally located, amazing ambiance, delicious craft cocktails, and friendly bartenders. Great little date night spot. Great addition to Bellingham. 10/10 recommend!!
Absolutely incredible experience! First of all the staff was amazing. They were hardworking, engaged, passionate and genuinely warm and interested. They work as a team so every bartender checked in with me, each taking orders and making drinks so you never have to wait for your specific server to be available. They engage with you in a genuine way. I wouldn't even call them bartenders but rather cocktail artists. They treat each drink like a piece of art as they build it and it shows in the way the drinks taste! Every bartender did everything from washing dishes to welcoming people in the door. It was prefect coordination that should be the envy of every bar or restaurant. The drinks were phenomenal. I had the Naughty Apple first which was a delightful treat. Often times I shy away from Apple drinks because they end up too sour or too sweet. This was perfectly balanced such that the cinnamon and lemon could play with your tastebuds while riding on a fluffy carpet of egg white. For my second drink I had Matthew's Mojito. I would say this mojito was the best I've ever had. It was so perfectly balanced that I fell in love with the succulent bubbles of carbonation tickling my tongue. All of the above was done in a clean and relaxing environment with great color and ambiance. This is truly what a bar experience should be. They've nailed it!
Do yourself a favor and visit Matthew's for his signature Old Fashioned. Ask for the sexy cube and the oak smoke. Without a doubt, this is the only Old Fashioned worth your time and your money in Bellingham. Trust me, we've made it our quest to find one that measures up...you just won't! The ambience is welcoming, classy, clean, and modern. The hospitality is warm, witty, and fun. We absolutely love this place!!
Matthew and his staff are a top notch crew. Everyone working here is attentive, knowledgeable, and go above and beyond for their customers. I've been coming here for a couple of months and they always great me and everyone else by name. The drinks are always well made, delicious, and decently priced for the quality and service. The lighting and vibe of the bar feels high end without the pretentiousness of other "high class" bars. I often ask for off the menu drink recommendations and am always pleased and excited by what I get. 10/10 recommend stopping in.
Stumbled onto Matthews after going to the farmers market. Austin and Matt are great guys and made great cocktails! Austin suggested tweaks to our drinks using different ingredients that made them even better. We liked it so much we came back the next day. The decor was awesome and the mugshots were really cool. Especially liked the Sinatra mugshot. Not only was the staff friendly but so were the other patrons. It was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it.
Good drinks, fast and friendly service. Reasonable prices. Fills fast but also since it's just drinks, ebbs, and flows. Standing tables and sit down are available. Had a great time, loved the trivia loop!
We are SO EXCITED to have this classy, friendly, fun, beautiful, delicious bar in town! Matthew, Ian, and Austin are incredible bartenders and they really set the tone for the perfect downtown bar. We'll be back, and often Update Dec 6 2022 - In our last visit this past weekend, we got to witness what incredible people skills these bartenders have. A customer came and sat at the bar and was a little tipsy already. The bartender, Austin, welcomed him gracefully, poured him an extremely light drink splash of wine with a lot of soda, let him hang out for a while, and gently told him he couldn't serve him anymore because he had reached his limit. Everyone at the bar applauded his people skills and ability to cut someone off without offense. It was amazing to witness, since it's a difficult message to convey without offending someone. Well done! And VERY nice to see that the folks at Matthew's are adept at not over-serving.
I was excited to give a new cocktail venue a try but Matthew's unfortunately does not hold up to the quality of cocktails offered by other local businesses in Bellingham. The drinks were mediocre at best and over priced. I'm very surprised Matthew's has such good reviews... Plus the male wait staff were very "bro", to an off-putting degree. Another group of friends also tried Matthew's without having heard our experience and also had a less than enjoyable time and said they don't recommend but I won't speak to the details of that visit unless they choose to leave their own review. My recommendation is to save your money and have cocktails at pretty much any other local place in downtown Bellingham.
Gentleman bartender Sethwas aces! I was driving by and saw the lights. Pulled over, checked reviews . Great old fashioned. Grab food from Horseshoe! Cane back for the 2nd time in one week and met Kimberly and Matthew. Great spot!
Amazing!!!!! I love everything about this new bar, from the great decor to the absolutely delicious and unique drinks! This is my new favorite place for a date night! Matt has gone above and beyond making this place truly special!
