As a paramedic who has worked all over TN, this is a great hospital based on the somewhat small population size/area it serves. Yes, the ER is always busy, but that is because this is your only choice between Memphis and Nashville for anything larger than a tiny rural ER. Excellent cardiac and stroke teams here! Quality of care here outshines many similar or larger hospitals in middle and west TN.

I think it depends on what part of the hospital you are admitted to that determines how you're treated. One thing I think is absolutely ridiculous is the "smoke free campus". I was at the hospital visiting my mother, went out to the parking lot to smoke, because this was where I was told to go. In the elevator on the way down I was panhandled, then when I got way out into the parking lot where I had seen people smoking all day, I lit a cigar and a security guard came by to tell me that I can't smoke ANYWHERE on property.....after having been there 12 hours that day!! This is really a FREE country, right?? Stupid! I have always been courteous to everyone and stood out by myself when smoking so that I don't "bother" anyone, but now-a-days everyone wants to fixate on something that bothers or offends them! Me standing 50 yards away from everyone, outside, was not going to hurt anyone, but these "smoker-haters" making & enforcing these rules are the same people stuffing their bodies with fast-food! So go stuff yourself with some more restaurant food and meanwhile, I'll smoke my non-chemical, no tar, no nicotine, pipe tobacco, little cigar!!

Receptionist in Carter waiting room can seriously use some customer service training. I understand she deals with a lot of people daily, but being at least cordial is expected. Especially when most people waiting are under stress.......... 

Other than that, the doctors and nurses are very friendly/informative.

I am from Florida and was not use to hospitals like this one. Most amazing care i have ever received in a hospital. All the nurses, doctors , X-ray techs and pathology people were super kind and respectful. Everything was done quickly but with care. 10/10 amazing patient care they make you feel better about being stuck in the hospital.

Umm. Arrive hear at the ER with my wife at 1800 hours. She broke her toe. And proud to say not so much as an ice pack. It's now  2145 hours still in the damn waiting room. My advise to all those in this particular situation. Cut your toe off and cauterize the wound yourself. Way better treatment than the ER will provide it.
