Out riding my motorbike I pulled over to adjust my gps looking for another place to eat. I happen to look up from my gps and saw this place. I figured why not, I’m here! Nice little surprise. I had a friendly welcome, was surprised how VERY reasonable the buffet price was and the food was just like it should be with a nice selection. TIP: “half and half” here first means half sweet tea and half unsweetened tea which I’m sure the locals know this. I was asking for half and half for my coffee and the cashier and I were having fun trying to figure out what each other meant. . We got it sorted and all was good! The decor isn’t fancy but to the point and kept very clean. Overall a very pleasant experience.
The Fried Chicken was crispy and juicy. Collards were fresh. The onion rings were really good. I found the macaroni salad too sweet. The deviled eggs were good and not sweet. The yams were sweet with a little char and I liked them. All the bread was dry. The sweet tea was sweet like Popeyes like I like it. The peach cobbler was a little runny but the crust was crispy and slightly chewy and good. I found the servers to be very nice. All in all it was a good experience and look forward to going back.
This was my first visit and I was pleased with the experience. The food was good and the price for the amount of food I got to go was great. The service was better than most places these days so that's saying a lot for me. I don't live in the area but anytime I am this will be my go to spot. I will recommend Johnboy's as a restaurant to definitely check out. My 4 star rating is only because a 5 would mean there's nothing that could be better or improved.
Good food, reasonably price. Southern homestyle food. Eat all you want buffet.
Over priced. Chicken looked like a blind person cut it. It's it breast is it thigh.. kind of. Collards unseasoned, cake was raw in the middle. Livers tasted like they weren't rinsed of blood. Salad bar was reasonable but small on selection.. the dessert bar was less than impressionable.
My family and I come here all the time. Good selection of food, seasoned well, nice desserts peach cobbler is the best and fruit is always fresh. The service is always great too! Price is reasonable as well. I reccomend!!
A friend and I went yard saling all day! When it came time for dinner, we went to Johnboy's Home Cooking. First time either of us had been there and we enjoyed it immensely! There was something for everyone and all you could eat. I will be back!
If there was a lower rating, I would give it! The price for two adults was $40 and as we get to our booth we had to kill a ROACH!!! It was just walking around our booth! Disgusting! The fried catfish wasn’t cooked all the way and super cold, the turkey was turning yellow, the pumpkin pie tasted like there was shaving cream in it, and the chicken was cold and looked not cooked properly. Definitely not worth it! I won’t even get started with the entire desert bar it just looked like they threw it on there and called it a day. Don’t go here ! Very gross! Even the sweet tea was just water with sugar that’s it.
We went to John boys to eat Thanksgiving day. Not 10 minutes after I finished my plate i got sick and had to RUN to the restroom … it’s Saturday and I’m still severely sick!! I do not recommend eating there
Could have had more meat selections especially it being the weekend. Sweet potato pie was real good and a nice surprise. Service was very friendly.Food: 4/5
