Lamoine State Park

Story

Lamoine State Park is a public recreation area occupying on the shore of Frenchman's Bay in the town of Lamoine, Maine. The state park offers broad views of the mountains on Mount Desert Island, the narrow Eastern Bay portion of Frenchman Bay, and Lamoine's working waterfront. It is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.HistoryIn the early years of the 20th century, the waterfront where the park stands was the site of a U.S. Navy coaling station. The state of Maine took possession of the property in 1949, developing it into a state park during the 1950s.Activities and amenitiesThe park offers a seasonal, 62-site campground, fishing, picnicking, kayaking, boat launch, and cross-country skiing.

Beautiful park, amazing views. The trails are very long but there are places where you can park and see falls with a short walk.

Location is superb, if you plan right you can land a tent spot facing west and watch the sunset on the water. You can also watch harbor porpoises swimming against the stunning backdrop. And the shower facilities are clean. Bring Bugspray!-- It's coastal ME!

This has got to be the nicest State Park I have ever visited. It is not primitive, but extremely well maintained with exceptionally private sites. We were lucky enough to get one right on the water, with one of the most awesome views of the Narrows, with the mountains of Acadia National Park in the background. One word of warning, though....You will not be able to forage for firewood....dead limbs are pruned, standing dead and fallen trees removed. Potable water available throughout the park is very good. Piers and Boat Landings are very close to this kayaker's paridise, and the fishing excellent! Hiking trails were mulched, and easy to follow. Bathrooms were immaculate, and the people friendly. On a scale of 1-5, this would be an easy "8" for family campers!
