I have stopped here for years to walk the dog and take photos of the woodpeckers. Three different subspecies. I often meet people there to start a hike east along the gorge rim.

Never crowded.  Picnic tables. Trails to walk and one that leads to the mountain top where you can over see Troutdale Gresham

Lots of homeless camps. I didn't feel safe with a young child.

A lot of people are confusing this park (Lewis and Clark Rec Area) with the nearby Sandy River Delta Park (US Forest Service) aka "Thousand Acres Dog Park". Although great for other things, just know that Lewis and Clark does not allow dogs to be off-leash.

Gorgeous area to take a walk. It's it's right along the Sandy River which has accessible beaches to walk on sunbathe, fish, and swim.
