Lost Lake is privately owned and offers 120 RV and tent camp sites on a “first-come first-serve” basis. The camping sites are quite large and well-spaced, with impressive giant Douglas Firs, White Pines, Cedars, and Mountain Hemlocks throughout that provide remarkable seclusion considering the number of sites available in the campground. Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and boating, are allowed on the lake as long as the boats are non-motorized. Fish are plentiful with opportunities to catch rainbow, brown, and brook trout, as well as Kokanee salmon. Throughout the area are blacktail deer, squirrels, chipmunks, black bear, bobcat, and cougar. On the north shore of the lake there is a large day use area for picnicking as well as a small general store with basic amenities. The area is perfect for families and day-trippers. Additionally, the resort can provide boating and fishing gear rentals. Part Jersey Shore –part Camp Kumbaya –all walks of life visit Lost Lake. Each visit for their own reasons as the area offers outdoor recreational diversity. Remarkably, all find harmony. As it has been a favorite tourist destination for decades, expect people. However, with 3.4 miles of shoreline as well as miles of hiking trails taking you deep into the Mount Hood National Forest, serenity is very possible. Whether it is boating, swimming, fishing, camping, hiking, photographing, or simply enjoying a picnic along the shore, Lost Lake at Mt. Hood is a top destination in Oregon for hiking and photography.

Our family has come here 4-5 times in the last ten years and the place has hardly changed a bit (in a good way, mostly). I highly recommend this place for families, couples, or groups looking for summer fun. There are a few things that aren't ideal but if you plan ahead this shouldn't be an issue. Pro: There aren't many places quite like this, with the scenery, activities, locale, etc. all in one small area. If you really look into it almost all of your classic summer activities can be done right here. The lodge has all of the typical vacation store essentials plus showers, picnic areas, rowboat/kayak/SUP rentals, and a little coffee shop. Bathrooms and potable water faucets are scattered adequately throughout the campground. The real great attraction for us is the lake. It is the perfect temperature this time of year (late July) and there are tons of areas to let our little ones play in the water. The banks are well shaded and mostly gravel/rocks of varying sizes which helps keep things/kids clean. Con: The facilities, maintenance, and cleaning here isn't up to the standards of what a state park would be; most of the time this is quaint, but.... The showers were flat out disgusting (as a former infantryman it takes a lot for me to think a shower isn't suitable). Sadly, this is the only reason I didn't give five stars. Other: Aside from the RV specific sites there is no electricity at the campsites, bathrooms or anywhere else really. This means that headlamps, flashlights, lanterns, and extra batteries are a necessity. The bathrooms are vault types with no lights, sinks, etc. so bring what you need to make yourself comfortable. Ultimately, I would suggest preparing as though you will be primitive camping and treat the facilities of the resort as a fallback if you need it.

Loud family tourists, noisy kids everwhere. The camps were spacious but could see your neighbors pretty easily. Water was easily accessible and the toilets are better than other camps. The lake is beautiful and renting kayaks was easy! Wouldn't go up Lost Lake Butte trail again though, so many bugs and no rhododendrons in July at least. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway with your significant other, this isn't it. While the lake is beautiful, the screaming kids and loud parents takes away from the experience, at the camps and on the lake.

Would give more stars, but arriving after a 2 hour drive, found out the reservations were made for Memorial Day weekend 2017 not for this year. Apparently the website for Lost Lake Resort was malfunctioning. The host at the resort said this happened to several other people. So we got to stay in a yurt for one night then had to leave the next morning. We were given a full refund though. Please note the website says the yurts are walk in, ranging 100 to 300 feet. So if you have several heavy ice chests like we did, it is suggested you bring a hand truck or wagon to carry them. Beyond the previous, the camp grounds are very clean and well maintained as well the yurts. Even though we did see one person of Mexican origin, there was no indication of many others wanting to take over the place (in response to an earlier post).
