We are locals We rent the large shelter for our annual church picnic every August. The shelter is large with air, kitchen and restrooms in the building. Outside there is enough room under the trees to play corn hole and a big stretch of grass where the kids can play dodge ball, tag and other fun games. There is also a nice playground close by as well as a splash pad. Its a great family place.

We have been to several state parks around the area but this is by far the most scenic and full of activities. No wonder why it's always booked all summer long. What a beautiful place! We will definitely be back.

This is our favorite park in coastal / south GA. We have been going there for 20 years now and have done numerous day trips and camping trips. I have camped in the group pioneer sites a few times but mostly at the campground in my pop-up. The park has had some much-needed funds come in the past year or two and has put it all to great use. They tore down and rebuilt the comfort station in the campground, added a splash pad at the day-use area, filled in the neglected swimming pool so it no longer will strain the budget. They also rebuilt the fishing pier at the lake and added another for paddle boat rentals. I am sure there was other improvements but those are the ones I saw. The lake is a nice one for canoes and kayaks. Bring your own or rent. The rental costs have gone up too but it is not too bad for some time on the water. I have never caught much fish there but I am not the best fisherman either :-). It will take you about an hour to paddle around the lake. Lots of wildlife, including several gators, mostly small but I have seen some 8 footers too. The campground is top-notch and the new bathrooms are great, except that the showers heads spray in a circular pattern. So it is possible for you to stand directly under it and remain perfectly dry. Not a problem if you run around in a circle to get wet :-). The shower was stuck on hot too. But that was a good thing because it was hot enough to burn the hair off your face and you do not have to shave...anyway, I told the host about it all and she called maintenance. So 5 stars from me. Go visit and support your local state park.
