Marietta Police Department- Policing With A Vision

Story

Marietta is 15 miles northwest of Atlanta and the Cobb County seat. At 23 square miles, Marietta is one of Georgia's most populous cities, with 56,579 residents calling the city home.

The National Civic League judged Marietta one of the 10 best communities in the nation as a 2006 All-America City, the oldest and most-respected community recognition award in the country. CNNMoney.com named Marietta one of the top 25 places in the United States to retire in 2011.

Mission

The Marietta Police Department is a fully accredited police organization with a modern, well-educated, highly competent staff. We value high integrity, the community policing philosophy and continually strive for excellence in all that we do. In this regard, our primary focus is on protecting and serving our citizens with the highest possible levels of devotion to duty by all members of the Department.

In accordance with our community policing philosophy, we use advanced strategic planning methods to move the department toward becoming less incident-driven and more proactive in addressing the root causes of crime and disorder in our community. Our strategies include advanced analytic problem-solving techniques; teamwork with all stakeholders of neighborhood problems coupled with collaboration of the full resources of local government; and candid open communications dialogue with the Marietta community.

We view one of the frontiers of modern policing to be in the area of information management and interpersonal communications. In this vital area, our approach is to work smarter-not harder by embracing both rapidly developing technologies and the technological acumen of our emerging workforce.

Most importantly, the bedrock of the Marietta Police Department is the set of values with which we approach everything we do: honesty, integrity, respect, teamwork, professionalism and loyalty.

Quite possibly the most incompetent group of "officers" I've had the misfortune to deal with. I own a restaurant in Marietta and had a group of 3 young girls and make a scene. After I repeatedly asked them to leave they finally left but on the way out one of them had grabbed a beer mug (about 1/4 inch thick) from a table and smashed it against the floor. The shards flew everywhere and one of them actually hit one of my customers in the face! When I called 911 and an officer showed up she told me there was nothing to do except to try to make her pay for the glass she broke "because she had already left." How about destruction of personal property? Misconduct? My customer could've been hit in the eye and injured deeply. Since when is leaving the crime scene a pardon for your crime? I showed her the picture of the license plate and she told me it was a rental car and that there was no way to know who it was. No, officer, I'm sure rental car companies keep track of who rents their cars along with their address, insurance information and their full name. The father of the girls actually showed up with them to the restaurant about an hour later to place an order and demanded to know why we would refuse to take their order. I called 911 again because the officer told me to call if they show up again. The same officer showed up and actually tried to convince me to make nice and take their order. I kept trying to get them to leave because I have no interest in providing service to anyone who is that deprived of common sense and courtesy; she kept trying to refute whatever I said. The girls were outside in the car and the officer made no move to question, arrest or even reprimand the girls (I found out the one who broke the glass was 21, full 3 years past the legal age of an adult). All in all if I could choose where my considerable taxes go I would give precisely $0.00 to the police department. Having no police at all would be better than the nonsense the good citizens of Marietta are subjected to every day. P.S.= The officer actually shook the father's hand as she left. Good job! Thank you for spending my tax money on not arresting criminals.

I have nothing but good things to say about this department. They were very nice, courteous, and were laughing with me at my sarcasm, which helped relax me. (Yep they're real people!) Thank you Ms. Donna for telling me how to go about the reports and getting a TPO. And Mr. Dispatcher lol...who helped me out with incident number and getting me in touch with the officers that helped me out. Of course a very big THANK You to the officers (Sikking and Williams) that got here so quickly! Very nice gentlemen, understanding and could relate to my concern about the issue with the 'creeper' trying to steal my dogs. (Yep steel my dogs! I caught him 'red handed' trying to get them to come to him.) He even commented on how well behaved and beautiful my 'babies' are. I cant show enough appreciation to them for what they do.

Don’t get your gun taken by them, I’m a legal concealed permit holder, got arrested for a misdemeanor, bonded out of jail, and my property was unable to be found SMH HORRIBLE, SEEMS LIKE THE POLICE FORCE DOESNT WANT LEGAL GUN OWNERS.

The City of Marietta allowing off duty police to use city police cars while working off duty jobs and in so doing parking them with the emergency blue lights on as if there is an emergency when in fact they are using blue lights so whomever has hired them can get the workers out of a parking lot. Wow! What a miss use of City Police Cars!. What a Waste of citizen tax dollars.
