After not even a week living here, I needed to engage some officers to deal with a package theft. The officers were quick to respond, very courteous and friendly, yet professional, and we got the situation sorted relatively quickly. I would definitely recommend Woodstock PD for your policing needs.
I would like to know why every time I have ever greeted a Woodstock Police Officer, with hello, or good afternoon , I get the biggest attitude you have ever seen towards me. What that officer doesn’t know is I am a military veteran and I spent 12 years wearing that same uniform in the state of Georgia. I will always show respect, but come on being so arrogant towards people just doesn’t work. It says a lot.
This review is based from years of observation and interaction. For what it's worth, I've never been arrested and have a clean driving record no axe to grind here. Firstly, they drive like they are annointed . . . they will aggressivley change lanes, often make turns with no signal, drive in rain with headlights off, etc. ATTITUDE! In 2020, a Woodstock cop was standing inside the door at Home Depot and giving the ugly stare-down to anyone without a mask. There's more but, in short, this is one of the most unprofessional and anti-community PD's I've ever seen.
Nothing is implemented nor enforced. Not a family friendly place to be. Marietta, Fulton and Dalton all enforced the law, so violators go live in Acworth and Woodstock. Sec. 54-31. - Noises prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to make, continue or cause to be made or continued any loud, unnecessary or unusual noise or any noise which either annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of others in the city. Code 1983, § 13-28 No person can sell, alter, or install a muffler which “causes excessive or unusual noise.” Current Georgia state law
Your staff at the police station reception is just wonderful. I went for a criminal record. Amazing experience.
Went in to file a police report for insurance claim. Nobody welcomed us in, everyone ignored us. We went to window to speak to these ladies and they were all so rude and unwelcoming. Later a male police officer went up to them and they were super extremely friendly to him after the way they treated us. By the end we had no help, wasted trip. Would expect more help and friendliness because that’s all I would give. Way worse experience than expected oh well.
Today I was stopped by Officer Broonbrake of the Woodstock Police Department. I hope I got his name correct but if not I apologize. He said he stopped me because I was speeding, which I was. I was having a bad day and he noticed and offered me kind words. He was very compassionate and explained to me that he stopped me because he wanted me to get home safe and how dangerous that road was. I would like to thank him and may God bless him and his family Thank you to all the officers keeping us safe
Rolled slowly through a stop sign in a silent neighborhood at 4am with no one awake for miles and got a ticket plus license points for something that really should've been a warning. The officer told me exactly what to do and I respectfully complied without incident like anyone with half a brain can do. It was a borderline offense that realistically should've slid, but I've got no one to blame but myself for the entire stupid ordeal. I have 100% respect for this department and their methods, attitudes, and outcomes which are rightfully dictated by the actions of the people with whom they interact.
We have had great experiences with the WPD. When my son was younger; he called 911 by accident. They came to the house and were very kind and patient with him explaining when you call 911. A few years later my son was missing and they could not have been more compassionate or thorough. He was found at a friends house. About a year ago our front door looked like it had been broken into. An officer came out right away; checked our home and the surrounding area and reassured us it was safe. Their department also sent an officer to meet with our neighborhood group to discuss neighborhood safety and how to set up a watch. They were also very thorough. I can't speak for others; but our experiences have always been professional and kind. I'm sorry if others haven't had that.
Being a retired police captain from NJ who moved to Woodstock a few years ago upon my retirement, I have to say some of the comments here are pretty disturbing and the poor overall average speaks volumes. When you read these type of complaints you have to take a good hard look at the chief of police and ask is he the right man for the job. It's my understanding that Chief Calvin Moss has close to 40 years of law enforcement experience. While most civilians may be impressed with those number of years, those that work in law enforcement recognize that someone with 40 years on the job are likely to be dinosaurs in the way they run a police department. Those dinosaurs are usually resistant to change and lack the motivation to initiate modern day changes and advances in technology. They are happy with the status quo and probably do very little besides drinking coffee and the usual daily grind. I also remember just a couple of years ago 4 sworn police officers were investigated for using illegal drugs cocaine with 3 being fired in the end. Woodstock Police has 31 sworn officers, so that equals to 13% of the departments police officers. That tells me there may be a systemic drug problem in the Woodstock Police Department and every member should have been tested when you have those type of numbers. This illegal drug use could be the reason why there are so many negative comments about this police department, especially the ones related to the demeanor complaints. Sounds like there is a serious moral problem in this department and maybe its time for this old dinosaur to retire and bring in some younger motivated superior officer to replace him and initiate the needed changes.
