Our newest store in Tacoma features something truly special – a full-sized home, built inside the store. Customers who are new to hands-on home repair will love our DIY house inside the Tacoma store. See how things are installed, choose lightbulbs after you’ve seen them glow and never look up another DIY video online. The experts are waiting for you in Tacoma. Opened in 2013, the Tacoma McLendon Hardware brings the same great product selection and legendary customer service to our customers in the south end. We can cut glass, Lexan, Plexiglas, keys, screens and lumber. Don’t need anything cut to size? How about recycling your light bulbs, upgrading a car key to an automatic fob and a cool place to take your dog? Four-legged friends are always welcome. Just don’t forget your shopping list. Amazing size and great selection!  People to help you everywhere and great displays all over the place.  The only complaint I have is the bathroom stall has a huge gap between wall pieces and it doesn't lend much privacy.  :)

I love walking around this store - the layout, the products, the cool house inside it... But finding anyone to assist me was difficult and the help I finally got didn't seem to be in the customer service mood. It wasn't busy. The cashier was nice though. Then, got home and realized one of my purchases was already open and missing some pieces.

Maybe it was because the company has a different policy under the new owners, or maybe it was because it was the day after Christmas and the staff were tired and stressed from the long holiday rush, but customer service was absent that day. First was the lack of sales staff in general, second was the employee carrying a coffee cup who chose a route to the lunch room that ran between me and the display I was perusing in one of their narrow aisles and not offering up an "excuse me" much less a "can I help you," third was the clerk at the cash register who challenged my question about senior discounts. I realize that retail is demanding work. It's difficult to always be smiling, always be helpful, always be greeting the customer, but it really makes a difference in people's opinions. Maybe I'll go back someday, but there are other stores.

I used to like to support this store because it seemed to feel like a Hometown Hardware Store (not just a big box). Lately, I've been having nothing but issues with them. They haven't been carrying enough quantity of their usual items so I've had to go to other locations to pick up the items that I need. 
I attempted to return a couple items that I did not use for my project and they closed their store at 5pm (is at the front door at 5:02pm) for a staff photo shoot. When I came back to the store to return the items a second time, they informed me that, if I don't have the original receipt, the only way that they would return my items is by refunding 70% of their retail price (basically 30% restocking fee) for STORE CREDIT only.
I guess I'll save my time and go to the Ace Hardware or Home Depot that is closer to me.
