Moraine State Park

About

This is the official facebook page for Moraine State Park.

Story

The gently rolling hills, lush forests and sparkling waters disguise a land that has endured the effects of continental glaciers and massive mineral extraction.

Each year over one million people visit the 16,725-acre park, yet never realize that many people helped restore the park from prior coal mining and oil and gas drilling practices. Today, the park is an outstanding example of environmental engineering achievement.

The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset, unless otherwise posted. Park information, launch permits, cabin information and assistance can be obtained at the park office near the entrance to the South Shore. It is open year-round, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends during the summer.

A secondary office at the Davis Hollow Marina on the North Shore can provide marina applications and general park information. It is open from April 15 to October 30.

The park is very nice. There's no limit on where you can fish or swim if you can make the walk. The lake has too many boats, and may be slightly over fished: We have only caught a few small bass

Great paved trails for biking and hiking, and spectacular views - summer or winter. Several facilities along the trails, bike/canoe/kayak rentals and even a medium sized cordoned off beach.

Every SUMMER My Wife & I along w/ OUR GROWN CHILDREN & their CHILDREN, WE ALL Drive a CARAVAN of Cars UP TO "MORAINE STATE PARK" for a FAMILY FUN DAY. We ALL BRING different types of food, plates, napkins, eating utensils, drinks, ice chests filled w/ ice & salads & OTHER ASSORTED GOODIES to HELP MAKE the day GREAT. My GRANDKIDS bring a football, beach balls, a Frisbee & OTHER ASSORTED STUFF to also HELP MAKE their day FUN. "MORAINE STATE PARK" is such a GORGEOUS PLACE to SPEND the ENTIRE DAY at. The FRESH AIR, The FRESHLY CUT GRASS, The CHOICE OF PICNIC TABLES & Areas to have a PICNIC at. The KIDS love to go swimming at the "PLEASANT VALLEY BEACH" along the "SOUTH SHORE" & then lay out in the SUN to get their ANNUAL SUNTANS. "LAKE ARTHUR" has become such a TOURIST ATTRACTION & a GREAT PLACE to get away from the HECTIC CITY & OTHER BUSY LOCALES. It's QUIET & SERENE, ALONG w/ being SO PEACEFUL.

Talked to ranger, looked around and I was impressed with how well kept the grounds were.

They have some geocaches here again! So cool :-) I saw some new areas of the park and had a blast looking for them. Can't wait to come back.
