We had booked a property through Mount Baker Lodging for 2 nights in August. We had originally booked the stay through another company that apparently ceased activities at the end of last year so our reservation was automatically cancelled. After calling Mount Baker Lodging, however, a very friendly employee helped me reinstate the reservation and it turned out to be cheaper for us, too, since we were booking directly through them. We were given property 15 SL, which was a truly lovely cabin with an outdoor jacuzzi. I have to admit that the jacuzzi was the main reason we wanted to book and stay there. We had been on a roadtrip for 3 weeks by that point with daily, long hikes, to the idea of being able to relax for two days straight (after hiking, of course) sounded like heaven. The cabin itself was very clean, spacious and everything we could have wanted. The jacuzzi, similarly, was perfect and we were able to enjoy it on our first night. The second night, however, it suddenly broke down after about 10 minutes. It just stopped working, so at first we figured maybe the power had gone out, but there was still electricity in the cabin as the lights were still on. We went in search of the fuse box, because we all agreed that it was probably (hopefully) just a blown fuse. However, there were two locked cabinets on the inside of the cabin and we assumed the fuse box was in there since we couldn't find it anywhere else. We e-mailed the office immediately, outlining the problem so they would be aware and so we wouldn't be charged for damages or anything. As this was around 8pm, we didn't receive a reply from the company until the morning after, saying they would look into it. When we went to check out later that day, we asked if there was any way we could be compensated for the fact that we hadn't been able to take advantage of the jacuzzi for the full duration of our stay. And since the price of stay isn't cheap (probably mainly because of the jacuzzi), we felt just a little cheated. But the reply in the main office when we told them about the problem was simply "unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about that". I do understand that technical difficulties happen and they can't be predicted, but if it was a matter of a fuse that needed a switch, we could've easily fixed it. So a little disappointed there with the customer service, but we loved the property itself and the area around it a lot. Perfect for visiting Mount Baker!

Mt. Baker Lodging is fantastic!!!! The bad reviews from others are the polar opposite of my experience!!!! I think it's important to give kudos when kudos are due!!! The entire staff, which I met a total of 4, was beyond helpful, friendly and curtious!!! Love what they offer; great cabin getaways and amazing customer service, truly couldn't have asked for more!!! You will not be disappointed! My spouse and I cannot wait to book again! Thank you again Mt. Baker Lodging!

I wanted to make a review of this renting agency itself (and not, like many of the reviews here of the properties for which they represent). I would just like to thank the staff there for their patience and professionalism. Given the wide range of properties that they manage it can't be easy. They dealt with my particular issue beyond my expectation, and it is more than appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE: The owner of Mt Baker Lodging reached out to assure me that the issues have now been fixed for future guests and to provide a partial refund for my stay. So while I would have preferred a better experience to begin with, I appreciate the care and concern the company showed later and would consider giving them another shot. ----- What started as a romantic trip for my wife and me quickly turned into anything but, once we discovered that the cabin was riddled with unsafe and unsanitary conditions. And the worst part is, the Mt. Baker Lodging people didn't even care. They never responded to my written complaint, they hung up when I called. I can only assume that this is how they treat all their guests. Below are some of the safety and sanitation issues I encountered: Icy stairs I fell down the completely ice-covered entry stairs and nearly broke my neck. I ended up with a large bruise on my hip and a cut on my hand. The ice is an inch thick and solid and can't be removed with the small plastic snow scooper left to clear the path. You'd think someone would at least clear a path to the door. Disgusting/broken toilet After flushing the toilet, the water runs continually. The only way to stop it was for me to reach in the extremely moldy/nasty tank to turn it off. Disgusting. Dead carbon monoxide detector It just plain doesn't work. This is a serious fire code violation. And it is especially important because no instructions were left regarding how to operate the flue of the wood stove. It's a good thing I guessed right on which way the flue knob needed to be positioned, or our fire might have killed us. Whatcom County Fire Department needs to investigate! Exposed staples on couch The arm rest of the couchis crudely covered by a sheet that comes away easily to expose sharp staples and splinters. Not exactly cozy. Hot tub odor The water in the hot tub smells like a dank old gym towel. I'm not sure when the last time chlorine was added, but it wasn't recently, and there's none left for guests to add. Here's the thing: I can deal with a lack of amenities, like no coffee or shampoo, or that they only gave us two towels to last three nights, or that there was only large logs (no paper or kindling) left to start a fire with, or that I had to crawl through snowy tree branches to get to the hot tub. But when things become unsafe or unsanitary--and certainly when I injure myself--I draw the line. This is all bad enough, but to then completely ignore the situation and to treat me like some annoying pest that's getting in the way of their money-making scheme? Ridiculous. I've never written a bad review of a hotel or cabin in my life. Until now. Congrats, Mt. Baker Lodging, you all are the worst I've ever dealt with.

I have been staying at various lodgings since moving to Seattle in 2005. Some years I've rented in Snowline, others Mt. Baker Rim. I'm heading up this Friday for a trip with a bunch of Dad's and kids and also the following week with a bunch of guys; I've stayed in 5 or 6 different homes, all perfectly fine, some with some quirks. I have never had a bad experience with the management staff, house or amenities. I was overcharged one year and received a credit within one week, including the time for the credit card company to post the amount. I receive a loyalty discount and always leave a good tip, and I will continue to both stay and recommend Mt. Baker Lodging to others. Lastly - if you are familiar with Whatcom county, Mt. Baker ski area, Chair 9 and other local places you know that a nonfat chai decaf frappy flavored pretty cup perfect temp latte doppio macchiato with 2% room isn't likely to be found anywhere. So what is found? A bunch of down to earth genuine people who make eye contact, smile, and help make the area what it is - little pretentiousness compared to other ski areas, laid back attitude, beautiful surroundings and people who respect the environment. It's worth the long drive from Seattle to get there. And they serve coffee.
