Ranger is a total jerk on a power trip. We called the office to see if we could stay a bit later than 12 (no one ever tell you you are supposed to be out by 12 anyway) And the woman said yes no problem and was very kind about it. Get back to the campsite and the ranger (who is wearing a bullet proof vest mind you because he probably thinks he is a super cop) starts scolding us for staying too long and not following rules. I tried to explain but he wouldn't have any of it said pay or get out now. Camping was mediocre anyway. wont go back.

One of the main reasons we chose this campground was it is advertised to have over 18 miles of streams and 2 public lakes for fishing, plus it says it has a playground for children. So we took our 2 year old son with us (as we have before ) and learn upon getting there that there is neither any good fishing or any playgrounds on the campground.  The only playground in the whole or prince William first was 6 miles away which equates to a 20 minute drive with the low speed limits. And the park worker literally laughed when I asked him.about fishing and said "Good luck! I'm not sure there are fish anywhere in the park." So then we went to our site, B9, and it wasn't even mowed. The grass was a foot tall behind where the tent was supposed to go. It was extremely small to where our 20 x q0 tent wouldn't fit well, plus the area wasn't flat and had large tree roots sticking up where u were supposed to put the tent to sleep. Not all the sites were like this, I think we just got a really bad one, but nonetheless it was really disappointing. Would of went himing, but you had to drive to get to the trails bc they were too far away. All in all, we just had a really bad experience and we're let down, so we just left and came home. I never ever leave bad reviews, so this is pretty much a first for me for this sort of thing.

As noted by other poster the rangers really bring down what is a really good camp site.

So we get there and are looking for our spot, a ranger (I guess it is a ranger not sure if they flunked out of cop school and ran to the woods to cry or what) pulls out of nowhere to follow me. I'm going slow cause I am looking for my spot but he is riding my tail so hard wondering if I am hiding all of the fish that ate Osama and am going to release them to destroy the forest. I find my spot and pull in he drives away and stares at me.

I decide I do not like the spot so I go talk to the host (super nice guy) to see if I can change spots, he says sure just bring the tag and let him know where I want to go. So I go back to the site and grab the tag and start looking for another spot. Ranger boy again pulls out of nowhere and rides my car again. I just pull to the side and wait for him to go by. He flips on his lights (I kid you not) and walsk up to me with his hand on his gun (cause you know a guy with his car full of stuff while camping is super suspicious I mean I could have hidden a dirty bomb in my sleeping bag, or had a leftover fart in my pillow) and asks me if I need help. I respond no. He says I saw you took the tag off that site. This sad guy has nothing better to do then harass campers and act as if moving a small piece of paper is like smuggling an Uzi submachine gun into the white house. I told him I'm changing my spot and let him try to intimidate me while he stared at me while he tried to decide to shoot me or not. Finally he left. I went back to my spot. An hour later I see him drive by and just stare at my camp site, did it again 30 minutes later. 

Really the pathetic rangers make the experience feel more like camping in guantanamo bay. Which is sad because it is otherwise a good campground.

We've stayed twice now  on two different weekends as we are local to Northern VA, and will definitely be back. I recommend going online and reserving a site in the B or C loop since those are the more wooded and private lots, but the A loop is still nice on a first-come, first-serve basis. Both stays were enjoyable, bathrooms are decent for a campground, and we had no trouble with the rangers. Hiking is awesome too! Definitely go on the South Run trail - it's along a creek and very peaceful.

This was an awesome campground. There was plenty of room for each of the campgrounds, nice fire pits/grills for cooking, the bathroom was clean and well-equipped, there were even hot showers! The fee was only $20/night, and if you don't have cash you could just put down your credit card number on the envelope. The lady there had a pile of fire wood that was free for active duty military and pretty cheap otherwise. We went on a long hike through the trails, which were well maintained and pretty extensive. I couldn't ask for anything more for a great weekend in the woods.
