Picacho Peak is a wonderful place for a quick, fun, hike. I did Hunter's trail, which is two miles to the peak. It has cables for a good 1/6 of the hike- most being in the back half. A majority of the trail is unexposed to sun, the last leg being the most direct light. If your hands are softer, I would recommend gloves for the cables and scrambling towards the end. I cannot emphasis how fun the hike actually is for how short the distance- definitely worth a stop.

Great campground. Camp spots are well spaced apart for privacy. Lots of big saguaro cactus in the park. Nice mountain views. Good picking trails. There is a memorial for the battlefield of the Civil War and it was the most Westerly battle fought in the water. They have electric here and water available to fill your tanks in the RV. The bathrooms is clean and very nice. Camp space's are large and room for a good size RV and truck.

We were greeted right away by a staff member who was standing at the entrance before we even pulled up. Easy check in. The park is quiet and doesn't look like much but has nice trails and some history to learn there. Beautiful scenic views from the hikes. we didn't spend tons of time there but a nice place to stop for a day or two.

Started off the new year right with a New Year's hike. Nice day on top of Picacho Peak. I have lived in the area my entire life and this was my first time and it was a decent hike, not too difficult not too easy. Path was pretty clean and wide enough most everywhere to step aside and let someone pass by.

Our hiking group (9 seniors) hiked the further trail to the peak that begins the climb with a 25 to 30 ft. very steep climb that was like rock climbing. The second trail down ended at a different trailhead and parking lot (closer to ranger station); it meanders down the mountain and through the desert. The numerous cable climbs / descends require good flexible gripping gloves and the climbers must be physically fit. A very challenging and rewarding hiking experience! Recommend no pets or young children on the trails to and from the peak because of the need to use cables with both hands. What a climb (5 hours).
