I can’t believe it took me this long to go to Ponak’s. As a vegetarian and part-time vegan, sometimes I have trouble finding food that’s really filling and affordable out on the town. At Ponak’s, though, that’s no trouble at all. A few of those papas burritos à la carte and I am set. There’s a great atmosphere to go along with all that authentic, filling food owing to the excellent staff and immense number of people pouring through the doors at all hours. Heads up, the location does leave something to be desired, as it can be hard to get in and out of the nearby parking lots and the lots themselves are small. Ponak’s is definitely worth the drive over from the Kansas side, and a great idea for anybody in need of either pitchers of margaritas or pitchers of sangria. Oh, and head on down to Boulevard Brewing for a tour while you’re in the area! You won’t be disappointed.

Vaughn was our waiter. It was obvious he hated us as soon as he walked up. Rolled his eyes at us. NEVER smiled, we had to flag him down for anything we needed, he wouldn't take anything off the table ( pitchers, plates etc) we were obviously being judged as a young interracial crowd that wouldn't tip. We left a good tip anyway which he hovered over us until we paid the bill! What a jerk! 
The food as always is excellent and the margaritas were great! IF we go back we will definitely make sure Vaughn doesn't get anywhere near us with his hateful attitude!

Ponak's is pretty much my favorite Mexican restaurant. I have come here since 1989, and love their #16 pork burrito meal. Their rice is so good, and not just an afterthought, like at most Mexican restaurants, with peas, carrots, and corn in minute quantities within it, imparting a great extra flavor to it. Their Taco Sonora is also highly recommended. Their margaritas are very strong, with no sour mix to be found. Just top-notch ingredients everywhere, and a great atmosphere. I come here every trip to KC, and have sometimes come to KC just to eat a meal here. Highly recommended.

Really good food with huge portions. Friendly welcoming atmosphere.  Free chips and salsa. Great friendly service.  Exceptional price for the portion size.  Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back often.

It’s a good time. Expect a 30 ish minute wait for a table, and some of the servers there are seasoned so may be slightly rude but they’re good servers and know how to handle their job. The bartenders are cool! Food is great but after all, i come for the margaritas so as far as i know the food is average and by the time i get it i have the drunken munchies. Get the Sonora tacos!
