Porter Jensen was founded in 1924 by William Lindenberg, in the University District of Seattle, WA. Twenty years later, Anchor Jensen and Fred Neilson purchased the business. Anchor Jensen was best known for his artistry in hand carving. His piece de resistance, a silver chess set, is currently owned by the Museum of History and Industry. Each piece was intricately hand carved from wax, in the shapes of Vikings and Gault, later to be cast in silver.
In 1958, Warren Porter purchased the store, renaming it Porter Jensen.
In 1962, the store relocated to University Way.
Mr. Porter recruited Josef (Joe) Waldmann, a jeweler, to work at Porter Jensen in 1997. Joe took an instant liking to the store, and had an immediate interest in the aspects of becoming a business owner. He went on to purchase Porter Jensen it in 1999. As his hard work flourished, Joe opened a new location at the University Village in 2001. With a focus on maintaining unique collections of jewelry, while offering high quality custom design, the store found continued success.
In order to gain necessary freedoms as a small, family owned business, the store relocated to Newcastle in 2010. A favorite of locals and past clients alike, Porter Jensen continues to operate on the foundation of offering unique, diverse collections of new and estate jewelry, with a focus on custom design and repair.
