Story

Robie's Country Store is a historic store at 9 Riverside Street in Hooksett, New Hampshire, United States. It was built in 1822 and has been operated by the Robie family since 1887. Robie's Country Store was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Robie's has been a political stop for presidential candidates since the early 1950s.Robie's was the oldest continuously operating business in Hooksett. The shop flourished at least in part due to its location: close to road, river, functioning mills and railroad traffic. The original building had a dock and received river barge merchandise until the railroad arrived in 1842.The building burned in 1857, was rebuilt, burned again in 1906, and was again rebuilt. George A. Robie bought the store in 1887, and over the next 110 years it was passed down from father to son. It provided Hooksett with food and supplies and doubled as the town's post office. The Postal Service still maintains a small P.O. Box cluster for 26 customers inside the store. The building and its historical pieces were purchased by the Robie's Country Store Preservation Corp. after the retirement of Lloyd Robie in 1997. The store operates under lease agreement.

Very laid back and friendly environment. My wife and I stopped here on the way back from a hike in the White Mountains and the food was delicious. The staff are very friendly and some folks shared their table with us because we couldn't find a seat. 5 stars on food, service and the locals. Can't wait to stop here again for lunch!

Plenty of food, nice atmosphere. They could use a better toaster. My toast wasn't (Toasted). Eggs were done right, bacon was big and tasty and if you order pancakes, they are huge and served with maple syrup, not Aunt Jemima. Definitely worth going for breakfast or lunch. I think the proprieter's used to run Jewel and rg a Beanstalk which was a great place for lunch in nearby Manchester.

The new management (Roots Cafe) really know what they are doing. No more endless waits for food like before. Delicious breakfast and lunch options in a unique, truly New England location. The walls are adorned with antiques and old presidential memorabilia. It's like eating in a museum.
