My experience: Long story, not a pleasant staff, no empathy. Staff treated me like they were doing me a favor. I broke my arm and had to wait a long time to even be given a bag of ice, despite being seen right away. The attitude of a nurse named Ashley was pretty annoying, and two of the X-Ray technicians should never work on a patient with broken limbs, as they have zero competence and empathy. Staff left out vials of my blood sitting on a chair while we were on our way out the door (we found them), and the room was a mess the entire time. Nobody bothered to clean up the mess the doctor made when putting me cast on. Also, I had to ask for food, despite being there for 5 hours. The staff for the most part seemed to just be wrapped up into "doing their jobs", but they left out the most important part: patients are important. I distinctly remember Ashley saying "What would you like me to do"? If a nurse has to ask a person with a broken arm this question, she does not need to be a nurse. Any number of things would help. Ice, medicine, a pillow, a sling? Nope, this staff overall was pretty careless and I feel robbed having to pay them for the "care" they offered.

In 2008, my baby came out early at home, and the ambulance sent me to this hospital. I was not supposed to come here, but I had no say on where they sent me. Everything was okay, except when a medical student was stitching up my tear down there - she did very well, gently, I didn't feel much pain. But the doctor was supervising her, (Dr. R.B.) said that "Oh, you did it on where it doesn't hurt." Then he pressed his thumb near my tear, "if you do it here, it doesn't hurt...but if you press HERE, (and I can feel he pressed down really hard with his thumb on my wound) THAT'S where it hurts!" I was screaming loudly in pain "AAARRRGGGHHH" and it didn't concern him at all. I know it's a teaching hospital, but seriously, do you have to treat me like a genuine pig? I will NEVER go to another teaching hospital in my life.

This hospital, I heard has unpaid internships for their new nurses that are full of college debt. Taking advantage of nursing looking to find work in a very tight market. If true, shame on you St. Peter's. Would Jesus be proud? How much do you evil clowns earn in salaries and bonuses?

My wife had a baby at St. Peter’s University Hospital in September and the experience we had from the nurses and staff was excellent. From the very first time that my wife was admitted to when she was discharged, all the different nurses that took care of her and our baby did so well to make our experience a very positive one. As a researcher with special interest in healthcare related matters, I must say that the positive experienced we had at St Peter’s was extraordinary. Even though we’re from a working class family, the nurses including everyone at the NICU where our daughter stayed for a few days didn’t treat us anyway different. Nurses and staff at St Peter’s certainly do deserve a praise for the public to know that even though there are bad nurses out there, those at St Peter’s University Hospital are super awesome.
