A special place for family campers, but just fine for us older folks, too. Lots of generous spacing, almost all with grass. Some sites with patios. Many very large common spaces with grass. Ample shared amenities. Well-organized, friendly staff. Best location on North Bay. Petaluma is charming, quirky, with some pretty good dining options.

Pretty solid KOA. We have stayed at quite a few now and this one is up there for the good ones. Decent pool and hot tub and a good bouncy pillow and climbing wall for the kids. Washrooms and showers were always kept clean as were the grounds. Well stocked store and friendly staff. Good location if visiting Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Marin Headlands, San Francisco, etc. but beware that traffic can be pretty nuts if you are not used to it. We visited from BC for spring break and the weather was awesome and would not hesitate to return. A little bit pricey but I think everything is in this area and there are not a lot of campsites given the population of the surrounding area as well as the close proximity to San Francisco so I figure it’s a supply and demand thing and land can’t be cheap either.

Please be very careful if you book reservations at this campground and have a dog that in any way resembles a pit bull. While the information on the KOA app nor their website lists anything about breed specific legislation they do send out an email confirmation that states no pit bulls or mixes. What they fail to inform you of is that they have numerous other breeds that they also prohibit. Unfortunately when you arrive they tell you that and then make a decision based on your dogs looks whether or not they will be allowed entry. In my case a supervisor came out to my truck, reached into my truck and petted my dog. She commented how sweet and well behaved my dog was and then informed me she wouldn’t be allowed because she looked like a pit bull. At that point I had no choice but to attempt a U-Turn in there very tight entry and find another park. Now my family gets to spend three days in a FEMA park instead of this KOA.

This is just an amazing campsite. I read some of the reviews for folks who were disappointed because they felt wasn't ideal because they didn't feel on their own in the middle of a mountain and that's just silly. You're going to Petaluma and they make it very clear on the website that they're very family friendly so yes you should expect kids with their bikes and families and folks being outside chatting to each other. If you're going there because you want to avoid other people this is not the place for you. There is so much to do for the kids that one of the folks said it's like Disney but a quarter of the price. They had a petting zoo, and amazing playground. A pool, that is a little chilly, huge slide activities for the kids which for last week included decorating pumpkins and a corn maze and hayride, a climbing wall and what can only be described as a huge area to jump around on that's much safer than a bouncy house. There are even ended up being a Halloween parade for the kids and so we ended up going to the local store to just grab two masks. That's probably the only thing I would say they could've done a better job on the website letting us know but it seems that a lot of folks knew and were very friendly. Amazing place and we booked it again and bringing our neighbors. It's the whole point to share these kind of places with folks that you like! Strangers are only friends that we haven't met yet. This super friendly site and we will be back again in November Thanksgiving to celebrate in a gorgeous setting.
