I LOVE this place! My family is from the south and this food is just as good as stepping into Grandma's kitchen. There hasn't been a single thing I've eaten or drank that I didn't enjoy. Everything is made to order so it come to you nice and fresh. If you ever come to Tacoma and craving some southern flavor, you gotta go to Southern Kitchen.

This place is awesome. Born and raised in Kentucky and Tennessee for most of my childhood, I've greatly missed legit southern comfort food and this place has it. The sweet tea tastes like it came from my Grandma's kitchen, the chipped beef is yum. They are pork free, so my kosher boyfriend greatly enjoyed eating bacon and sausage. We had a minimal wait, even though it was packed, and the service was great. Reasonably priced, huge portions. Going back soon to try out their dinner menu!

Food is just ok. Expected more given the great reviews. You get a lot of food but most of it is buffet quality at best. Super friendly staff though! (really the only reason for getting as high as 3 stars.) Don't go out of your way just to come here but if you are in the area and don't mind a mean dose of heartburn, stop on by.

Went on Friday afternoon for lunch.  I'm from Alabama so I wasn't sure what to expect. My only experience with Soul Food/Southern Cooking on the West Coast was in Southern California and the joint was busted. 

 I had the fried fish, mac/cheese, black eyed peas and corn cake.  If I have any complaint, the peas could have been better.  The food was good.  Not grandma home cooked down south great but it was very good.  Want to send a shout out to Tereek (spelling) and Paul.  They did an excellent job of taking orders, getting folks their food, and cleaning tables.  They really worked well together and took good care of the customers.  

My first experience and impression of the Southern Kitchen was positive so I will definitely be going back.

Not good at all. Cornbread was dry. Batter came off the fish. Tarter sauce tastes like mayonnaise. Mac and cheese was flavorless. I wouldn't recommend. If you want southern food go to the south for it trust me. Pacific northwest  is not the place to try southern comfort foods. Your better off going to California for it its closer than the actual South. Disappointed with this choice and it wasn't cheap for this place.
