One must consider that medicine is about ruling out all other possibilities, not jumping to the first conclusion and running with it. Remember House? He was a diagnostician. Welcome to ER medicine. 

 This is my second trip to the ER. Both times, the staff has been gentle, understanding, thoughtful and knowledgeable.

Please remember that the doctors are trying the best they can to figure out one of a myriad of problems with only the symptoms you present - with a very short time to do it. The nurses? They are your conduit to the doctors and providers for all hands-on treatment.

If you are in the ER, you or someone you love is IN PAIN and SUFFERING. They understand this, but please remember: they are human and are trying their best to FIX YOU.

I was a little freaked out when my son was taken there for emergent surgery. I work for Maine General in Augusta and have been in health care for 20 years. I’ve worked at other hospitals as well. Point being I had a lot to compare too. 
When I walked in I had so many questions running through my head. One being a small hospital in the middle of nowhere and the age of the building/ equipment. Remember I’m coming from a building 4.5 years old with amazing equipment and it’s just a massive hospital. 
You know the saying don’t judge a book by its cover right? I’ll tell you one thing, that little out dated hospital has some damn great staff! I was SO impressed with my sons care from beginning to end! Every single person greeted us with a smile, was very attentive and knowledgeable! My son got the best care that he could’ve gotten and more!  They round every hour, we weren’t left out of the loop on anything including what meds were given, what they were for and when the next dose was do. The surgeon brought photos and explained each one so we understood what he did. He even stayed to have casual conversation about his college football years ! (My son plays) He’s a great man. Stacey and Brenda the RN’s we had never once made us feel like we were a burden, poor Brenda  had to keep coming in cause my son kept bending his arm which caused the IV to keep occluding . She never complained ,she kept a positive attitude , came in with a smile even though I know how much of a pain that can be. Also, the way they do the discharge process is great! There’s no messing around waiting for paperwork/ prescriptions and removal of the IV. They had the paperwork ready so when he got his last dose of antibiotics he could discharge. I can’t say enough about this hospital. I know it’s a long review but they deserve all the recognition in the world!!!!

Caring professionals associated with Maine med and teaching hospitals. Good experience with family members coming for diagnostic and imaging procedures. Some good experience in emergency also ( although I wish they had an urgent care service in addition to emergency like at Bridgeton). And if you're there during a meal time, very good cafe services. It is a cornerstone of the community.

I had to go to the ER because my daughter kicked me in my stomach. I’d been having pains for over 12 hours that just got worse. They gave me a pregnancy test. Said it was negative and told me to go home... WORST HOSPITAL EVER!! Thanks for the f***ing help. Fwi 2 year olds kick pretty damn hard.
