Don't use them! In short, once Summit has your belongings, they honor nothing they promise and you are at their mercy. The expense was not at all justified by the service as we hoped it would be. My suggestion is to find a mover who will pick up your stuff, keep it in one truck and be the same person who drives it to your final destination. Summit which puts it on a truck then transfers it to another truck or freight train until they have enough to make a "run" while you wait with no information was TERRIBLE. The driver was a cry baby and unwilling to do any necessary maneuvering. They broke our furniture and offered no consideration for their completely botched move. Read on for details.... The pick up of my mother's furniture happened quickly, efficiently and expensively. In fact it was a relatively small volume of furniture. We felt confident the price was justified by the initial dealings with Summit Van Lines. Once Summit had our belongings however everything went wrong. We contracted for a weekday delivery for two destinations arriving before 4PM with a 48 hour window of notification happening 5-14 days after pick-up. None of it happened. I received a phone call from Summit's driver on a Friday evening, 21 days after pick-up, telling me he would arrive the next day, Saturday, between 1-3PM. When I told him this was impossible and reminded them of everything we were promised I found myself dispatching the move myself. When I explained the reasons for the weekday delivery I was met with obstinate resistance and schooled on how deliveries with Summit work. I held firm only to have to deal with the driver's moans and Summit's customer service the entire weekend. When I finally dispatched with the driver for Monday, when they arrived in our residential area, they complained their truck was too big for both drop offs and added further resistance. I explained to them they should be aware of the topography of their delivery destination and make necessary transfers to trucks that will assist in their delivery and not hinder it. When I told them they could walk the furniture up the hill for delivery they did manage to get the ridiculous 73 foot truck wherever it needed to go. Ultimately after every Summit complaint and further arguing they conceded to whatever inconveniences they created from their lack of proactivity and follow up. During the first drop off they broke an antique chair and left hastily without assembling the furniture as promised by the sales person earlier. For the second drop off the driver traveled 25 miles south only to drive 40 miles north because they didn't properly map the route and had a truck too large to travel anything other than highways. All calls to customer service were met with friendly people who did nothing to help. I asked for consideration and they refused. By the time I lost my temper they were so sick of listening to my legitimate arguments challenging their competence they reduced themselves to cursing and screaming. I am still waiting for the claims email for the broken chair. Ultimately, with the exception of the chair, we did receive the entire contents of the move, but it was late, filled with unnecessary pleading exchanges for them to deliver our furniture and far from easy.

Summit van lines came thru big time on our move. We we’re provided with a binding quote. Did pay a dime extra. Our belongings were handled with great care. Will definitely use them again in the future.

Moving days are always the worst for me, a combination of bad personal experiences as well as moving companies in the past. But my recent move with Summit was a breath of fresh air comparatively. They showed up on time and were careful with my things. All of my furniture was neatly and carefully packed away, and everything arrived in the same condition. Many thanks to Summit for all of their hard work, I'll be sure to give them another call when I need to move again!
