One of the best vets in town. The wait time might be long but it’s always worth it. They are good on prices for meds and appointments fees. I’ve been taking my dogs here for 20+ plus years! So give them a try if you need a vet!

This used to be the best place in New Mexico to take your pets for care ; I entrusted my babies' lives with them and Dr. Abernathy especially. But recently I have found that Dr. Abernathy has lost his way. He is overwhelmed, in my opinion, and has gotten in way over his head, and can no longer make competent judgements and diagnosis, and can no longer be trusted. I believe he also uses his status in the community and his short temper to enable him to cover up the mistakes he's making, and he's turning it around on the owner to be at fault in one way or another, instead of admitting he made mistakes. It's truly sad because I know his heart started out in the right place, and his abilities were, at one time, the best in the business. But he is now making critical mistakes that he will never admit to most likely, and it's costing the lives of animals and the irreparable pain and suffering of these animals and their beloved owners. His mistakes cost me and my fiance and caregiver our beloved dog, my emotional support companion, and our best friend. We trusted him entirely, which was our mistake and we have to live with that. But Dr. Abernathy should be not only admitting the mistakes made, but also be more compassionate to us about our loss and the negligent mistakes made in our case, not ignoring us, denying things, hiding things, and getting angry at us for pointing them out. He's too tired to continue giving out the advertised care he professes. I think it's time to retire. And I think you should man up and admit you screwed up here. Face us and don't blame us. Admit this and maybe forgiveness will find its way to you.

We were loyal clients of Sunrise until last spring. I called them to say that my standard poodle was not able to get to her feet and was in pain and could I bring her in for euthanasia (she had been going downhill for a couple of weeks). The office staff member told me I could "drop her off at 6pm". That was such a horrible response! I found another vet who could see her right away and who was compassionate. So I wrote a negative review of the clinic - saying that the doctors were excellent but that the staff were terrible. Today, nearly a year later, I decided that I'd give them another chance, so I called to make an appointment. I got a voice mail telling me that I could no longer come to their clinic! It seems to me that the appropriate response would have been to apologize for the previous response and work with the staff to improve.

Doctor Abernathy is wonderful. I'm so thankful for finding him. Expect long wait times. He helps many many many animals.

Removed previous review (I made on behalf of my dad per his request), because it was based on my dad's opinion of Sunrise, and not our opinion. We have always had great service and have been clients for over 15 years. Our pets have always been well taken care of.
