Story

Chef Chad Gauss is a native Baltimorean who has risen up the ranks all the way to chef and owner of the much-loved Hampden hot spot, The Food Market and now his newest creation, La Food Marketa, which opens in September 2016 in Quarry Lake in Baltimore County.

A Baltimore International College grad, Chad has stayed true to his convictions. While he always wants to be creative and expand his businesses, he remains humble and appreciative of his success. In 2010, Baltimore Magazine named Chad “Best New Chef " while he was Executive Chef at Mt. Vernon's City Cafe. Then, in 2012, he opened The Food Market and changed the food scene in Baltimore. In 2015, he created The Private Kitchen (on the ground floor of The Food Market) which provides guests with a private dining experience, as well as an opportunity to enjoy the excellent food, drink and service of Baltimore's best restaurants in a completely different way.


Chad continually works to make classics his own - whether it's for private catering clients, the Orioles and Ravens organizations and players, or restaurant guests. His food is often described as "upscale, yet down to earth" and he strives to make his guests comfortable and happy. "I like giving people food that they want to eat. It's that simple." For that, Baltimoreans are thankful and keep coming back to The Food Market over and over.

Had Girls night out for dinner and it was excellent. I ordered beef short ribs with mashed potatoes. And for an appetizer I ordered the big ole mozzarella sticks. Yummy! My Girlfriend's ordered the crab cake platter and the lil crab pot pie. Oh and my friends said the cream of crab soup was delicious too. Kudos to the Food Market, I will definitely be back! And the free valet parking was a huge PLUS on that windy Baltimore night! 😍😎👌🏽🙌🏽

Two sections of clever apps, a bunch of crafty sandwiches, and a long list of thought out entrees. So hard to chose what to eat when it all sound's amazing. 1/2 Baked Blonde on the dessert menu was a sexual/religious experience. The exemplary staff is laid back, very friendly, and refreshingly unorthodox.

The food is average. The drinks are average. The service is on point. The decor is beautiful. I am not sure why people make it seems as if the food is so amazing. Have given this place 4 tries over a period of a few years. I like it but that wow factor these fake foodies give it, well, it is not there. For me anyway. If my friends insist, I always go.

Lobster boom boom and a old fashioned. Match made in heaven. This place is always a must if you're in Baltimore. Great food, friendly staff and a nice crowd. Chef Chad knows what he's doing

Delicious brunch food with good cocktails and easy atmosphere. We had the crab Benedict, shrimp and grits, and an awesome app of pretzels and beer cheese. The Rhianna and Regina George drinks were delicious. Insta: @baltimorefoodscene
