About The Ginger Man

The Ginger Man, named after the outrageous novel by J.P. Donleavy, began its journey in 1985 in an old house in Houston, Texas. This original creation, believed by many to be the first multi-tap bar in America, was hailed by the late British beer guru, Michael Jackson, as one of the finest beer bars in the world. It was to be followed by The Ginger Man bars in Dallas and Austin and, in 1996, what was to become one of New York’s most popular bars, year after year, opened on a grand scale. While its many loyal fans say that it’s more than the sum of its parts, the parts, especially the seventy taps dispensing fresh ales and lagers, backed up by 160 bottles, are pretty impressive. Join us for a beer!

This place looks like an old English pub/bar with it's decor and high ceilings, only roomy. They have a LARGE selection of beer on the tap and in bottles. They also have a good selections of whiskey from bourbon to scotch. All that said, this is a mid-town establishment so it has mid-town prices. Their food is also pretty good bar food, their pretzels with sauces is amazing.

As expected living room decor and extensive beer variety on tap for a Ginger man location. For a native central Texan, what a great surprise to see kolaches on the menu. Granted fillings had a local twist, the bread was pretty spot on.

Great beer selection and atmosphere. It's pretty relaxing place to sip on a nice beer. It can get a bit hectic when it's crowded but it's a large bar so it doesn't feel cramped if you can't find a seat and have to stand.

I was here with two friends. I was really excited once I got there. They had a wide variety of beer and the food was fine as well. The ambience of the place is also great. I loved it and would definitely go back there. It is a great place.

Reviewing late as I came in August. I was just exploring Manhattan for a day as I had 13 hours between flights. Stopped here for lunch and got a flight of beers. Food was great, beer was brilliant with a wide selection. Atmosphere was nice but I came as soon as it opened as my timing was off with jet lag so it took a little while for people to come in. The lad behind the bar was helpful and chatty. He helped me pick out a bunch of local beers and kept me company, which was nice as I was traveling alone. Would come again if I ever travel back over the pond.
