The Perch is a one-of-a-kind pet shop & cafe in the heart of Colorado Springs! We feature bird food, supplies, fresh coffee, and adoptable rescue parrots!

Story

Located in the heart of beautiful Colorado Springs, The Perch now serves MDPR’s primary shelter and adoption center.

The Perch is designed to exclusively quarantine and house birds for Metro Denver Parrot Rescue. Here during our public hours you can meet adoptable birds, get advice from our staff and volunteers and connect with your local parrot community. We strive to create a comfortable environment to facilitate adoptions and drive community awareness for the birds that need homes here in Colorado.

I really like this store for their staff and toy selection, but I give three stars due to a really bad experience with their food quality. The batch that I had purchased for my parakeets a few months back (I assume) was infested with meal moths. This resulted in an infestation of moths in my apartment and caused illness in my parakeets. I assume their stock was initially infested because there was silky fibers inside the package of grain after purchasing it. I thought little of it and a few weeks later I started having problems. Two of my birds were weak, shaky, and unable to keep themselves on their perches. I took them to a veterinarian in my area and received a diagnosis: the meal moth larvae are toxic and affects the birds nervous system. This resulted in the death of one of my birds while the other recovered well. Soon after, I checked the treat blend I had stored away, the bag was full of meal moth larvae. Yes, I am at fault for not paying better attention to the product, but I am convinced that the food I purchased was not stored correctly at some point. I attempted to inform The Perch by giving them a phone call (no one answered because it was after hours), but no one called back to further assess. I wanted to inform them to avoid any more bad experiences for bird owners or at least retain more information about their food supply. Anyway, great place to adopt a bird and purchase toys and other accessories, but seemingly not reliable for food or treat.

I went to The Perch because they came up on a search for bird rescue information. I learned they rescue domestic birds and I was seeking information on a injured wild bird. The friendly staff provided contact information for a wild bird rescue service in southern Denver area which I appreciated.

Absolutely adore this wonderful shop that serves the large bird rescue! You can enjoy tea or coffee while visiting with the birds or shopping, and the staff is knowledgeable and experienced! Wonderful way to get to know birds and the different breeds and their histories! Love love!

We love this cafe, of course we are proud parrot parents ourselves. I think it's a great idea for people to see how these birds behave before they think of buying. You as a owner become part of their flock. We bought a coffee tree for our girl from there and  it was the best purchase we made. I love the selection of parrot toys and good. Great cafe.

Lovely local bird shop. Fair prices and wonderful atmosphere. Not a great location and parking is pretty odd.
