We chose this place because of the high ratings but maybe we chose a wrong day/time to visit. The best part of the encounter was the host. Very bright and bubbly personality. However the food was not good. To be honest the food seemed to be not very fresh. It reminds me of food that is thrown together real quick cause you u hungry and u need not put too much attention to taste and presentation. It was not restaurant quality. It is nothing compared to Jamaican food to which I am accustomed to. The rice and peas appeared to be cooked separately and just mixed together poorly. The cabbage lacked flavor and was mushy. Spinach had high amount of citrus flavor. The curry was over powering in the chicken…meaning it may have been added very late in the cooking process and didn’t have time to blend. Another thing, I do not believe the patties are freshly made. I think they are store bought and displayed as home made. Reason being is that they tastes awfully similar to the same patties from the local Costco. This is an overall fail for me.
Really nice place to eat! Service was awesome and food tasted great. I got the Jerk chicken and it had a wonderful taste. A little spicy. Empanada was flavorful. I got a raspberry slushy and it was ok. The people there were so sweet. They kept check on me. Would definitely go back!
One of the best of places to go to for great Jamaican food. The owner is such a character and a great person to talk to for a long time. The staff are very nice and the food is amazing. Couldn't ask for more. I got the jerk chicken and Jamaican patties. Since the food was so good, I ordered the ox tail and another thing if jerk chicken for my family to try.
These guys are really friendly and the meat pies are absolutely to die for. I went in early one afternoon and was on the fence about how many to get. I wound up saying just give me what you’ve got which was 5 or 6 I forget. They joked about not having anymore for the rest of the day and laughed when I said oh well 1st come 1st served
Excellent food! Everything is great, all the patties are delicious, my favorite is the beef. Braised oxtail, curried goat, stewed chicken and jerk chicken are all amazing!!! You cannot miss this in this gem! Give Lloyd some love, and he gives it right back!!!!!
If I could give this place zero stars I would. They only gave me 3 oxtails and they were burnt and tough. The food is horrible. It taste old. I’m from Richmond Va. This food doesn’t compare to any of the places back home. I wish I could get my money back. I never write reviews, but to prevent someone from wasting their money on this pig slop I had to. This food was horrible! You’ve been warned. Buy at your own risk.
Delicious food in an eclectic setting with great vibes. The owner is super friendly and helpful. We loved talking with him. Great variety of coffee and tea and the best coffee ever = Jamaican Blue Mountain. Great ice cream, snacks and Jamaican sodas. We came back the next day for goat and ackee and salt fish for breakfast. Sooooooo good! The home made pound cakes are incredibly moist and the fried plantains are not to be missed. Highly recommend for a great, relaxed, corner store vibe. I wish Tropical Island was on my corner!
Very small dishes, like small The chikan was not suitable for kids due to the fact it was exstramly spicy but they where nice enough to replace it with a stew, the drinks are good and the smoothy even due expansive is nice
As with most small restaurants, everyone is short staffed. The stewed chicken and jerk chicken were good. Really liked the rice and beans. Wish I could have gotten the ox tails.Food: 3/5
The smoothies were really good. The variety of drinks in the cooler was impressive. The menu options were nice, and the tea and coffee opens were numerous. And most importantly, the staff was really super friendly. It's a cozy place, but didn't feel cramped. Wonderful little island escape right in the middle of Winchester. I'll be happy to go back for more smoothies and snacks soon.
