Utah Imports has been providing quality independent auto repair and service in the Salt Lake Valley since 1959.

Story

In 1954, Wilhelm and Christel Keller emigrated from Germany and founded Utah Imports, specializing in Audi and Volkswagen vehicle repair and service. In 1990, their son Jeff relocated the original business to our larger State Street location. Continued success and strong business growth led to the opening of a second location on Herbert Avenue in 2010. While still the premier independent specialist for Audi and Volkswagen vehicles, we've expanded our expertise and specialization to also include Subaru, Volvo, BMW, and Mini Vehicles.

Just as we invest in our businesses, we invest in our community too. Utah Imports is a proud supporter of local non-profit businesses and organizations. We are long-term underwriters of NPR and local independent radio stations such as KUER, KCPW and KRCL. In addition, we regularly donate to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). Utah Imports also advertises in the Utah Symphony/Deer Valley Music Festival programs. We are dedicated to the Salt Lake community and want to see business here thrive and prosper. They did a great job on my son's car. Very thorough and fair on price. They stuck to what they quoted me over the phone, even though they spent more time fixing it than they originally thought.

Apathetic, problematic, and costly pretty much sum my experience with Utah Imports.
 
Brought in my new-to-me Eurovan for a tune-up and received a quote and timeline, including some repairs that seemed a little questionable, but possibly needed. Given Utah Imports record of being great with VW, I agreed to them thinking they had caught things others hadn't when I had the van inspected prior to purchase. Long story short, it took 3x as long to complete (never an explanation why) and my van was returned to me with a slew of problems, such as:

A bent rim
Busted cooling system (they broke multiple lines when installing transmission cooler)
Tie rods installed incorrectly
Alignment completely off
CV boot mangled (was brand new)

When I called to discuss the issues, I heard from a "service manager" who was seemingly annoyed that there had been a complaint and wouldn't schedule a time for me to bring the van back in for repairs. Basically made it out that I had managed to obliterate my van in under 24 hours. I called again, and this time heard from the real service manager, who informed me the last person I had spoken to was a shop tech. Already bad enough to get blamed for a major issue, even worse to be lied to by the staff. 

Needless to say, the problems they caused impacted the van in such a way that it's been in and out of the shop ever since, and anyone who has worked on it has said that the original work done was haphazard and the cause of our ongoing issues. 

Perhaps they are good with new models of VWs or classic Vanagons, but if you have a Eurovan, I would avoid this place at all costs.

I spent most of my time talking to Devin, and a couple times with Alex. He has been crazy helpful, and has called me and made sure we were on the same page every step of the way. And he even worked with my warranty company, even when they had some hiccups. They helped me gracefully recover after not being treated fairly by another company. And were super willing to make sure I understood why everything happened on my car! Its always nice to get the opportunity to work with a great company! They're working on my car now! Can't wait to get that baby back on the road!

I have been taking my car (a VW GTI) here for 2 years; honest, hard working and reliable mechanics are hard to find.   Thanks for the work you guys do!

Took our Volvo XC90 there about a year ago or so and had a great experience. Issue was fixed and haven't had problems with it. A new issue came up and we decided to take it to UI again based on previous experience. Unfortunately, this time our experience was horrible and I most likely will not be taking our car back. 
We took it in about a week ago for what was an apparent issue with our engine mount causing an annoying sound. They said they fixed the issue after almost a $400 charge. On our way home from picking it up, the same sound was still occurring. We called back that night and took it back in the next day. We then were told later in the afternoon that they thought the issue was with a belt and some other things and that it would $900 to fix. We disagreed and said we would like to take it somewhere else for a second opinion. My wife went to pick it up later that afternoon, and one of the mechanics asked that she drive around with him to make sure he was understanding what the issue/sound was. She did so, which was nice, as the sound did occur. The mechanic said, after opening the hood, that he could see where the issue was but was not sure what to do to fix it and that he would need to research it and would get back to us. It has been almost a week now and we have not heard anything from anyone at UI. 
What frustrates me most, is they said originally the issue was fixed when who really knows if the apparent issue with the engine mount was even an issue to begin with which means we paid almost $400 for nothing. On top of that, they then try to say that a belt and other things need to be fixed, another $900, when that wasn't the issue either. Hard to trust this place given that at this point.
