We stayed here 4 nights in a motor home with reservations through Thousand Trails. What we liked: The staff was very friendly as well as the residents. We had a nice level "full hook up" site but they are limited. The pool was very nice and located near the fishing pier. The park location was at the end of a long drive, secluded and beautiful. We fished from the pier and had a good time. Nice level land for walking and riding bicycles. What we did not like: Most of their sites are water and electric only and the full hook ups are on a first come first served basis so get there early. The club house was closed while we were there and there were no planned activities. The pool and fishing pier are a long walk from the camping sites.

Rowdy campers nowhere to be found, which was a plus. This park seems to have a lot of potential but not very impressive as it is now. Beautiful location but would be much nicer with its own beach. Not enough full hookup sites in transient area, and most W/E only sites had electric boxes but no electric. Pool (which was way too far away from the transient campsites) looked aged but clean (we did not use). Did not see any place to park around pool area. Bath houses looked clean but are also of advanced age. No camp store. Lawn mowing of occupied sites stirred up the already plentiful biting flies. Huge deep puddles on our campsite formed during a heavy rainstorm. Back roads in area and some parking lots of businesses on main highway also flooded. We left a day early because of the weather and our campsite being flooded. Surrounding towns very boring and some areas looked unsafe.

Our family went to Virginia Landing RV Campground to get away and have some time at the beach. Unfortunately, the trip wasn't quite what we were expecting. The day we arrived, we had to wait 10 minutes for someone to come to the front gate to check us in. During that time, 3 other vehicles came and the person in charge of checking us in took their sweet time getting there. After finally getting checked in, we made it to the cabin and realized that the cabins are divided in half and each half consists of a single open area with two queen size beds and a futon. We called prior to the trip and were told that the cabins were one bedroom, which we assumed meant that the cabins would have a separated bedroom and living room rather than a studio style open area. Once we were settled into the cabin and took showers, we were met with foul smelling water. After a couple people took showers, the smell of the water died down but it was still there, albeit subtly. The next day, we took a trip to the pool and fishing pier (which are entirely too far away from the cabins and camping area), but we were overwhelmed by rampant horse flies that chased us relentlessly and all but ruined the swimming and other activities available on the grounds. There were some days when the flies were nowhere to be seen, but the days that they were around were miserable and we were forced to go back inside the cabin. The rest of the grounds were in a rather poor state of repair, with one area of the boat dock being broken down and leaning into the water. Since everything was in poor condition, we decided to try to find something to do, but we were hard pressed to find any activities or beaches within 45 minutes of the place we were staying. We went to Cape Charles Beach on the bay side, which was the nearest beach at 45 minutes away, and it was a terrible experience. We were overwhelmed by the smell of sewage all over the beach. If you come to Virginia Landing and want to go to a good beach, you can expect to drive an hour and a half to Virginia Beach or a little over an hour to a state park beach that is home to wild horses, which can be a fun experience. Despite the poor condition of the campground and the lack of anything to do within a close proximity of the area, we still managed to have a good time. The cabin we stayed in was right on the water, which provided a great view, and we had fun catching/watching fiddler crabs at low tide. We got to see some storms out on the water and got a nice light show from the lightning, which luckily avoided our area. The grounds are, for the most part, beautiful and there's plenty of wildlife to observe from rabbits and deer to turkeys and turtles. In short, Virginia Landing RV Campground is a good place to get away from it all, but don't expect anything fancy or luxurious. It's a shame that the place is so rundown as I imagine it was once a very nice place to relax and unwind.

I stayed at Virginia Landing because I had received a "free" membership to Thousand Trails Campground club with the purchase of my camper. Let me explain how Thousand Trails is not even worth the "Free" price tag. First, I will describe the quality and condition of the campground: It is pathetic. It is nothing more than a grass field with campers packed in like sardines. The Thousand Trails Website gives you a false impression that it is near the coastline and beach. It is not. It is on the marshy inlet called "Hog Island Bay", and there isn't even access to that. There is supposedly a fishing pier, but in my one night stay I could not seem to find it, and I wonder if it even exists. To get to an actual coast, as in the ATLANTIC OCEAN, you must get in the car and drive at least an hour. There are bugs everywhere. Giant horse flies that bite. They supposedly have a miniature golf course, but as you can see by the pictures that other reviewers have left, it is again, pathetic. Bathrooms and facilities are disgusting. Everything about this place is run down. Pool, miniature golf course, welcome shack, gates, roads, campsites... you name it. I can honestly say that this camp ground has no redeeming qualities. Secondly, I will describe my experience with the Virginia Landing Campground staff, along with the Thousand Trails customer service: The quick story is: The neighbor camper must have had mental issues, did not like dogs, and threatened to slit both me and my dogs throat (there was no negligence by me or the dog, and all rules and common courtesy were followed). The police came, and a restraining order was arranged. The only accommodations the campground would do was to make me, the victim, pack up and move camp sites. Mind you this is just a giant field, so the guy was still within eyesight. I told them that that was unacceptable, and that I would be taking my business elsewhere. They refused to reimburse me for the site. I followed up with Thousand Trails. They acted concerned at first, but let me tell you, it is all an act. They do not care about their patrons one bit. LESLEY BLACKWELL was the person they assigned to this case. She did absolutely nothing. After numerous empty promises of returned phone calls and reconciliation, I finally got to speak with her (3 months later). She told me that she honestly felt that I had been treated fairly. Her response was "they offered for you to move your site, it was your decision to leave the campground". I strongly disagree. Please, do not fall into the Thousand Trails Trap. Luckily my membership was "free", but trust me, their membership isn't even worth $0. I would have much rather spent my summer vacation at a paid campground with decent facilities, and a general concern for their customers. The campgrounds included in their package are horrible, and their incompetent staff is scum. Please do not patronize them.

Where do I start, you come here to get away and have fun but there is barely anything to do, false advertisement, there is no game room, nothing is kept after, everything listed as an amentiy needs major repair, 45 min to an 1 hour away from everything like chincoteaque, which is over an hour away, cape Charles is really 45 min away there are no parks or beaches shopping, stores, we went to all local attractions on our Gps and they ended up being someone's driveway that said no trespassing. All maps are wrong it's a other 10 min further then what you think. Golf course is run down and broken. No cable. Golf course, pool, volleyball is over a mile away from where you get the balls and clubs, no camp store or big enough to be called a camp store, no one available anywhere. The "adult Rec room" is run down the pool table doesn't have all the equipment and balls, the ends of the sticks are missing. The "camp store" has like 5 items for sale basically the size of a small shed and you have to call someone to open it. Bugs everywhere, worse than most campgrounds for biting horse fly green heads at campsites and everywhere else. Swimming in the pool was nice right on the ocean. we were the only ones there each time we swam, we were attacked by horse flies a lot also the concrete around pool is not safe, eroded away and there are bad holes and gaps all along the pool my sons toes went in the gap and got stuck and when my son pulled his toes out it ripped the top of the ends of his toes causing a lot of bleeding and we had to leave. No activities there is no beach area in or within 45 and that's on the bay side. There is never a guard at the guard house we stayed 4 nights, when we went to get golf clubs and balls had to call someone to come and then wait until someone came up then later we were coming back another day some people are checking in at 4 o'clock pm in a Friday and no one was there and they were blocking the way in so we had to wait for 10 minutes for a guard to show up. Our campsite was unsafe the concrete pad stuck up at least 5" in the middle of our camp area my son of course tripped several times and hurt his toes, the same ones that got injured in the pool cracks. The do is owned by the campground are the ones that are all fallen apart, the good dock on the other side was repaired by the people who own homes there, he told me that the owners are not allowing them to do maintenance on the docks anymore so again, another unsafe area. They have probably 100 acres of land to mow but have to do it with a 60" mower deck so they have to mow every day all the time. Can't even go out on a boat because at low tide it drains completely down to mud. No dumpster on the way out would have to walk or drive down aisle to dump trash. The good parts, it was in the middle of no where not much noise or people have the campground to yourself, we saw tons of deer and other wildlife on the road to and from. My son loved catching the fiddler crabs need the docks. The playground was nice and at least safe. Talked to one of the residents and they have been here for 30 years and says the park keeps changing hands and that there is little maintenance or upkeep. I think this place was really cool at one time but it looks abandoned and neglected now. I would say ok campground if you are just passing thru one night.
