We really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately we ended up being quite disappointed. When we arrived (at 5pm, only an hour after our reservation said check in began) the innkeepers were nowhere to be found. I called and found out they had already left for the day and left our keys in an envelope, along with all the other guests' envelopes (it turned out there was a tiny note on the door, but since it was difficult to even tell which door was the main entrance, this was not much help). Two other patrons also arrived around the same time and were just as confused. We were willing to overlook this bad first impression, but unfortunately the room itself was also very uncomfortable. We were in a tiny room on the third floor (which stayed VERY hot and humid for our entire stay, despite an old air conditioner trying to keep up during our unseasonably warm stay). We would have requested another room, but that was impossible given that the innkeepers were not available. The bed was also lopsided and needs to be replaced (clearly guests must sit on the one side that faces the TV and this has permanently sunken that side). The bathroom was "private," but actually down the hallway, which was annoying (and a bit dangerous at night, since there were a few stairs that you had to navigate while half-asleep). At least they provided bathrobes, but they were a bit skimpy and after the first time I took a shower I opened the door to find another confused looking couple wandering the hall - very awkward! There was also no "do not disturb" sign, so we were woken up by someone trying to get into our room the first morning, I assume trying to clean. I ended up making my own sign to prevent this from happening again. Despite that intrusion, we actually never saw the innkeepers during our entire stay! We were in the house at normal times (10am, 5pm, etc.) during our visit and yet we never saw them a single time! The second night was better (I wore earplugs to block out the sound of the noisy air conditioner), but overall it was still a tough stay - not a relaxing experience at all. There was a book of thank you notes left in the room, but they were all dated from 2 or 3 years ago. My sense is that the innkeepers were much more involved in the past, but now rarely stay in the house itself to interact with their guests, so beware of older reviews. The only reason I am giving 2 stars rather than 1 is because the house itself is in a nice location and it had pretty good parking (although on the weekend this seems to be more scarce, when the inn was full). We will not be returning and do not wish to hear from the innkeepers - I would have shared this all with them when I called again at check out (again, they were nowhere in sight), but they did not answer, so now I am sharing this publicly. I really don't like to write bad reviews - I know everyone is trying their hardest - but with so many things that went wrong, I feel that I need to help others by sharing my experience. Good luck!

After a tedious and long flight from Munich to Boston, a 2 hour drive from Boston to Newport, and a short search I found the Architects Inn finally. It is not far from the center of Newport but located in a really quiet neighbourhood. The location is simply great, it is only 10 min walk to the nearest beach and the same time to the waterfront. Architects Inn is ran by Nick and Brian who care not only for the house and the garden but were absolutely helpful to make my stay as relaxing and pleasant as possible. The rooms are clean and beautifully equipped with old wooden furniture and historic painting on the walls. The breakfast cooked by Brian is simply great. Each day a new surprise and all this arranged with lots of love and taste. I spent many hours on the spacious porch to prepare conference talks in the morning and to relax in the evening. I really recommend the Bed&Breakfast and hope to come back a future day.

There is so much history and charm in this marvelous mansion. We stayed for one night in the LaFarge Room, and were very pleased with room amenities and services. The booklet in the room is written by Nick and Brian, whose writing style is both informative and quirky - you will learn a lot about the mansion and the town. I enjoyed reading it and, at times, found myself laughing hysterically at some of their restaurant reviews. Though busy, Nick made himself available to answer my many questions and was generous with his recommendations on things to do and places to go. Because we made reservations through online booking sites, breakfast was not included, unfortunately; however, there were always cookies and muffins available in the dining room, as well as coffee and tea.

A fantastic place to stay in Newport. Nick and Brian were about as hospitable hosts as anyone could ever ask for. They are so knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Such a great experience we definitely plan on staying at the inn on our next trip to Newport. Food was great and the rooms were extremely clean.

Beautiful house in a great location. There are a lot of rules but that keeps the house clean and beautiful. Kitchen is small and crowded so don't plan on making large family meals.
