About

Award-winning New Nordic cafe at the American Swedish Institute. Named "Best Lunch in Minnesota" and "Best Place to Dine out with your Kids."

Story

FIKA is the American Swedish Institute's award-winning New Nordic inspired cafe. Named "Best Lunch in Minnesota" by the Star Tribune. Our Outdoor Courtyard is one of the hidden gems of the Twin Cities' dining scene.

We offer fresh baked goods and coffee starting at 8:30 a.m. on weekdays. Lunch service from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Tuesday–Sunday.

After Work Wednesday, a Nordic-inspired happy hour and dinner service from 3 until 9 p.m.

From espresso and pastries to farm-fresh salads and open-face sandwiches, FIKA features traditional Swedish delicacies alongside modern interpretations of the New Nordic Cuisine.

With the Turnblad Mansion in full view, guests dining at FIKA can choose from an ever changing seasonal menu dedicated to our regional ingredients and Nordic traditions.

In Sweden, "fika" is a daily break, traditionally involving coffee and treats. Fika is about much more than caffeine and carbohydrates. It's a Swedish social institution, where friends sit down and chat about life and current events.

Who would have known that nestled inside the Twin Cities is a flipping CASTLE! Who would have taken it further to see that they could actually rent it for a wedding day? Crazy! This is easily one of the most beautiful venues we've been lucky enough to photograph. The staff did a wonderful job of maintaining a perfect blend of classy and elegant and the Bride & Groom had a stress free and gorgeous wedding day. Top notch!

I was really impressed with this place. A nice hidden gem of a museum. Easy to walk around for a couple hours and the food at the cafe was great.

Wish there was more furniture in the bedrooms. Also could use more seating in the cafe. We waited a hour for a table. However, the food was delicious and store was interesting to browse through.

Amazing woodwork. 11 Incredible ceramic fireplaces. Fun history for all to explore. Searching for Tomte during the holidays always a treat.

The last time I experienced this venue was 1965, while volunteering as a Girl Scout, earning a badge. I had a fabulous Christmas tour yesterday with guide and learned a lot! A friend and I ate at the cafe, prior, and were disappointed with the shrimp special sandwich.GREAT gifts in their holiday shops!
