I really wanted to like Avis because it is close to my office, but there is a reason this Avis is rated so poorly, and it’s because all the other 1 star reviews are true.  I had a reservation and showed up, but they didn’t have a car.  They finally found one, and fifteen minutes later (after being the only person in the office), they walked me out to the car.  The representative had conveniently forgotten a damage form to document the cat scratches on the hood, chips in the side of the car, or duct tape (yes, it’s true) over the foglight insert into the front bumper, but he assured me he’d write it up when he got back inside.  I opened the car door, never even sat down, and closed the door because both my son and I were overwhelmed by the wrench of the smoke.  I walked back in, and he had no other mid-sized cars, and wouldn’t find anything else of another class, so I asked for a cancellation because they couldn’t provide a car from their “proud…100% smoke-free fleet”.  He explained to me that their cars often smelled like smoke even though no one had smoked in them.  Well, fifteen minutes later, I left without a receipt for the cancellation refund because the printer wouldn’t work, but he promised to email me one.
 
Imagine my surprise when I go home and had a receipt for the full day, plus a $14.99 fuel surcharge (my agreement was to return the car full of fuel)!  The receipt showed that I had the car for 14 minutes, and odometer in and out were the same. 
 
Since it was obvious that this facility was clueless, I called the 800 customer service number.  After being transferred a few times, the representative finally agreed to refund the $14.99 fuel surcharge, but told me just because the car was junk and smelled like cigarette smoke that could be smelled just by opening the door, they wouldn’t refund the charge -- that's their policy!
 
Stay away from Avis!  Stay away from this Avis at Haywood Mall! And don't worry about calling the 800 customer support (I’ve tried everything to remedy this before writing this review, but there’s a reason there are so many one star reviews.)
 
Oh, and the “We are proud to feature a 100% smoke-free fleet!” on the door of the location and on my receipt for these charges is just the icing on the cake for this pitiful comedy.  Don’t be fooled, stay with Hertz or Enterprise.

The gentleman at the counter was top notch .. His customer service skills were excellent . He has now drawn mu bushiness from Enterprise to Avis !

Prices excellent, car selection excellent but READ FINE PRINT VERY CAREFULLY!!... customer service department ,reservation department and all locations each tell you something totally different regarding a refund . Yu can always reach someone in good timing when your spending money but when it a comes to a refund of your money you get the run around and transferred to 83 different people...

Always rented from avis at haywood. Reserved car it wasnt ready so we waited. Gentleman came back angry. I didnt see car we reserved. Will take business somwhere else.
