Story

Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, this is one of the most scenic parks in the state, offering rugged geology and exceptional hiking. The park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek, and elevation differs from 800 to 1,980 feet. Overnight guests can choose from new yurts, cottages near the canyon edge, a modern campground and spacious, walk-in tent sites. Backpackers can enjoy camping in a hemlock grove on the 2-mile Backcountry Loop.

The most spectacular view into the canyon is an easy walk from the picnic area; however, hikers can also explore a rim trail or journey to the canyon floor by a series of staircases. Two waterfalls cascade over layers of sandstone and shale into pools below, with their flow depending on recent rains. This Waterfalls Trail is part of the popular Canyon Climbers Club. Backpackers, mountain bikers and equestrians can explore several miles on the Cloudland Connector Trail.

Free mountain bike excursions every Sunday, great gift shop Visitor Center, yurts, cabins, tent, and primitive camping. I LOVE their 2 BR cabins, one of my favorites. Close to Chattanooga. Friendly. Quiet. Some of the best views obtainable. Away from the noisy din of cities. 4g coverage is questionable. Might affect a working type getaway.

I took my 7th grade Earth Science class to Cloudland Canyon State Park to enhance our experiential learning. After discussing the geographic regions of Georgia in class, we spent a day at the state park with the park naturalist, Stephanie. She organized and led an excellent orienteering class, a hike to Cherokee Falls, and a tour of the interpretive cabin. Stephanie was patient, kind, and knowledgeable. I am looking forward to many more visits to this beautiful and unique state park!

Clean, cheap, safe and quiet! Hike in sites are spaced apart from other campers so you're immersed in the forest for a REAL camping experience. There are sites for every camping with power and water. Bathroom facilities for both styles of camping available,(outhouses in backwoods). The hiking trail around the canyon is picturesque. Just a great campsite

Tent camping was wonderful here. They have a well managed campground and bathrooms that are very clean and well maintained. Very friendly staff. Needless to say the park itself is absolutely beautiful and there are several trails with different levels of difficulty. I would highly recommend a Fall trip. When the leaves are changing, you'll find some breath taking views no matter what trail you're on.

This is the best camping we have visited in our dinner road/camping trip! I visited 6 years about and I couldn't be happier to be back! The people are so kind and neighborly! I would just live here if I could. If you reserve a spot and arrive after hours your name will be pinned to the board, great a parking pass and drop the $5 parking free into the box and hang your pass on your car/truck. Post the green registration card on your post and you will be fine. Go to the main lookout and take Hemlock Trail... To the left and take tons of pictures! Enjoy your stay and clean up after yourself. It's a beautiful place... Let's keep it that way. 😉
