Story

Columbia Room is a cocktail bar created by Derek Brown, where the ingredients, techniques and lore of cocktails merge together to create a memorable experience. We focus on exceptional service and meticulously crafted cocktails paired with food. But, in the end, our bar is about people— the people who make the ingredients, drinks and, especially, those who drink them.

At Columbia Room we have three distinct spaces—our Tasting Room, Spirits Library and Punch Garden. Seats at the Tasting Room are ticketed and we offer two menus: a three course and five course menu of cocktails paired with snacks. Our Spirits Library and Punch Garden are open seating at tables, though space is limited. At the Spirits Library, we offer one-of-a-kind spirits as well as classic and original cocktails à la carte, along with a selection of snacks. Our Punch Garden is outdoors and serves carefully crafted punches and bottled cocktails.

Classy cocktail lounge, perfect for date night. Ambience is good. Only downside is it's very small so the wait can be 30min+ even during slower times.

Fantastic cocktails with incredible service. There are three different areas for you to enjoy, the Punch Room, The Library, and a back room that is reserved for tastings (which requires a reservation). I have sat in all three places (and completed a tasting) and have never had a bad experience or a bad drink. The bartenders were all extremely well-versed in a wide array of spirits; the seasonal menu is always interesting and has a wide selection of drinks. You'll find riffs on classic cocktails as well as interesting creations with unusual ingredients. The wait can often be long, so I would encourage you to always have a reservation. Several times I've walked up in the evening around 9 PM on a weekend and there's been a two hour wait.

One of my favorite speakeasies in Shaw, tucked in Blagden Alley. It's similar to the Gibson with great decor and comfortable chairs. The cocktails are on the tarter side. I ordered the Daiquiri and Expresso Martini. I enjoyed the Daiquiri, it had a hint of sweetness with a nice pineapple flavor. I didn't really care for the Expresso Martini, a nice caffeine boost though. I recommend coming here on a weekday and making a recommendation for a tasting. On weekdays, you can avoid the crowds and enjoy a nice quiet evening here. Although I came here on a weekday without a reservation, I had to wait a half hour and was unable to do the tasting. I heard great things about the tasting, which apparently comes with little food pairing and you also get to spin a wheel of drinks. Can't wait to be back for the tasting, the rest of my review awaits!

Did the 3 "course" pre fixe menu with my boyfriend on his birthday. It was exactly the right way to start the evening! Why is it worth so much to have couple cocktails? Because that's not all it is. With each cocktail and food pairing, it was obvious the thought & creativity that created the experiance. Simply, yes, it is worth it. Columbia Room has a couple different seating options, so if you do just want to pop in for a drink, try the garden patio!

Among the dozens and dozens of amazing bars in the city, two stick out that are equally good- barmini in downtown and Columbia Room in Blagden Alley. If you like an experience with futuristic design, go to minibar. If you like a more regal, yet inviting atmosphere, come to the Columbia Room. The Columbia Room is inside the historic, brick alley called Blagden Alley. Within the alley itself and just outside are amazing restaurants (like the Dabney and Calico) so it's an easy place to go to for after dinner drinks. Once your IDs are checked, you'll be taken upstairs to enjoy a drink either inside or on their roof patio. If you choose inside, the atmosphere is a modern take of a British Pub. The bar is out in the open letting you watch the master at work. If you need recommendations, no problem. Your server can give you many options based on what you usually enjoy. I went with three friends and each of us had the perfect cocktail for us. The drinks aren't bad for one of the top bars in America. You'll end up paying $15 or so, but believe me, it's well worth it!
