Bad service , if you have any missing documents or anything to update they just refuse you and they don’t even look at any updates you do!!! Don’t recommend at all! Go to Spain Embassy , waaay better

I went there at 1230pm , not knowing that their visitor hours are 9-12pm . The staff still accommodated me . very nice of them , when they did not have to go out of their way .

If you are American and applying for a National Visa (Type D), do not bother. I spent months researching the correct visa to apply for and getting the documents ready for the appointment. I had to purchase a flight to NYC for the appointment and was denied at the front desk within 3 minutes. The ladies at the front desk were extremely rude and talked to me as if I was a criminal. They told me Americans weren't allowed to apply for a Visa D. The fact you have to fly to NYC to even have them glance at your cover letter is absurd. Their website needs to clearly state the rules for each Visa because it was highly misleading.

Come prepared and they get the job done... helpful communication via email too.

Outright racist - The Austrian consulate in NYC is the worst place to get a visa if you're brown. Sorry to say, but yes, I've concluded they're racist against any brown. I've seen top notch browns (Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis) rejected - those that are scientists and surgeons in the US - who have a Greencard, have $200k in checkings accounts, work for McKinsey etc. I'm a hedge fund manager and showed a good bank balance. They rejected me for 'forged documents'. My friend was rejected for unclear travel plans although she had a clear day-by-day itinerary, is well traveled and well placed.
